Lucy is called to the set of American Idol. She is pushed into the audition room by Ryan Seacrest and just goes with it, performing for the judges in her uniform. Just when it looks like they want to give her a ticket to advance, she runs off. Tim opens the door just in time, asking what she has been doing. She tells him nothing.
Some of the precincts are donating blood. Thee chief almost faints after turning down a juice box with a macho attitude. Harper’s ex comes to see her at work. Their daughter is having nightmares. She promises to stop over later.
A crime reporter comes in to see the case reports. Lucy gives them to her. Tim is annoyed. The reporter tells Lucy all about some recent hotel robberies.
Harper and John stop at her ex’s house so she can see their daughter. Harper acts weird on the steps. She hasn’t been in the house since they split. Inside, Harper talks to her daughter who tells her she saw a woman the night before on the street with blood on her hands. Meanwhile, Harper’s ex tells John that Harper was almost killed by a drug dealer in front of her daughter. Harper asks her ex if she can come back later tonight. He agrees to it. They head outside and it does look like blood on the ground in the front of the house.
Tim gives Lucy a lecture in the car not to trust the media. They arrive at a garage to see a man yelling at a mechanic. He pulls a snake out of a bag. He swings it around at the mechanic as a threat but the snake bites him in the face. He drops the snake before dropping to the ground. Tim and Lucy jump on the back of a truck bed. They don’t know where the snake went. Lucy gets gutsy and manages to get the snake while Tim waits on the truck.
Harper asks John to come back to her ex’s house with her. He is a good buffer. John shares that he has a date. Meanwhile, the crime reporter comes back to the precinct to ask Lucy out for a drink. Those reports helped her and she wants to repay her. They share a drink.
Jackson and Angela get to talking about her boyfriend. He has been acting funny. Jackson knows why it sounds like he is going to propose. Irritated, Angela thinks he is right.
At her ex’s, Harper is annoyed. She thinks maybe her ex is seeing someone. Just then, John and Grace show up with dinner. At dinner, Harper tries to openly talk to her ex about him dating. He swears he isn’t dating anyone.
The crime reporter wants Lucy to go up to a room she rented. She knows something is going down. Lucy tells her she won’t go unless she calls Tim. The reporter agrees. Tim arrives.
Angela is annoyed because now she cannot stop thinking she will be proposed to soon. Meanwhile, Harper and John see a woman in white walking down the windy street. It wasn’t just her daughter’s wild imagination.
Harper and John went out to the street to find a woman in her white nightgown walking with a shotgun. They demand she put her gun aside and put her arms up. She does, explaining that a coyote attacked her dog and now she’s going to find him and make him pay.
Back at the hotel, the crime reporter was right Tim and Lucy watch as a man with a gun walks up to a hotel room across from theirs. It appears that a woman is learning men and then she has them robbed. They open the door to intervene while the reporter runs to the balcony and tries to hang out of the side to get a picture through the other window. She falls and grabs a hold of the balcony. She screams. Tim comes to help her and sends Lucy after the man while calling it in.
John heads to his car to leave after helping Harper when he sees a little white dog he believes to be the woman. He goes to bring the dog to her house seeing inside of the window, there is a man with duct tape over his mouth. Suddenly John is hit in the back of the head.
John comes to and he is dangling from a beam. His hands are strapped to it and there is a man who looks familiar, a neighborhood acquaintance of Harper’s. He has his husband strapped to a chair and he has been drugging him because his husband wants to leave him. He tells John that he interrupted, the two were making progress.
Harper is ready to leave her daughter after sharing that she found the woman. The daughter asks about the man she’s been hearing, that has been screaming at night. Harper heads to leave and sees John’s truck still out front. She starts to look at the house across the street. Meanwhile, the man wants to kill John but every time he comes up with an idea John shoots him down. He doesn’t want to use a gun because it’ll be too loud. The man decides he’s going to duck tape John’s face and he does to make him stop breathing. Just then the doorbell rings. It’s Harper. The man pretends that he hasn’t seen John in shuts the door. Moments later Harper comes into the basement, taking out the man.
Haper and her ex share a moment of understanding. He tells her to hit the couch, she probably needs sleep. Angela gets her big proposal at home before the hot air balloon ride. She says yes! John gets stitched up by Grace. She explains that they need to take it slow. He understands.
