General Hospital Spoilers: Thursday, September 23 Recap – Sonny Visits His Own Grave – Chloe Jennings News Rocks Anna

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Thursday, September 23, reveals that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) suited up and visited his own grave while real Chloe Jennings (Phoebe Kuhlman) news rocked Anna Devane (Finola Hughes). Here’s how it all went down on Thursday’s GH episode.

At the boxing gym, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) was surprised to find Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) hitting the punching bag on the morning after his wedding. Britt was even more surprised to learn Jason wasn’t really married since Sonny returned from the dead!

After Jason recapped Sonny’s time as amnesic “Mike” the bartender in Pennsylvania, Britt wondered how Jason and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) could just turn their feelings off. Jason simply acted like since circumstances had changed, things had to go back to how they were before.

Britt mentioned how Carly got her husband back while Jason was left with nothing, but he thought maybe he deserved it. Although part of Britt felt vindicated since Jason chose Carly over her, she didn’t enjoy seeing him hurt.

Britt revealed that Peter August (Wes Ramsey) was alive and explained the missing Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) situation, but she declined to have Jason put Brick (Stephen A. Smith) or Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) on the case. Britt made it clear that she didn’t need Jason coming to her rescue.

At Charlie’s Pub, Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla) was glad to make it there before Ava Jerome (Maura West) left. She wanted Ava to stay in Port Charles, but Ava remained adamant about leaving due to the stalker.

Next, Cameron Webber (William Lipton) arrived with the news of Sonny’s survival. Trina was blown away and knew Josslyn must be off having a family reunion, but she needed help. Cameron offered his services and found out Trina knew who Ava’s stalker was.

Trina insisted that Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) had teamed up on the mission. Cameron had his doubts at first, but Trina worked to convince him. She felt they had to set a trap, so Cameron was eager to hear the details.

At Wyndemere, Esme and Spencer were there to move in. Spencer admitted he still wasn’t sure this was going to work, but he missed his father and wanted it to. Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) hugged Spencer and eventually mentioned that he’d ordered some pastries from Esme’s favorite bakery.

Esme put on a phony smile and made subtle yet over-the-top demands – like wanting blackberries instead of other fruit and expecting a specific amount of foam in her latte. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom) spoke with Esme privately, so she quizzed him about his job and mentioned she was thinking of an emphasis in psychology.

Kevin noted that people with an interest in the area were usually searching for answers about themselves. Esme wondered if Kevin had found answers about himself then, so he suggested he’d gained the ability to read people in certain situations.

Afterward, Kevin spoke to Nikolas about Esme being high maintenance, but they acknowledged that Spencer didn’t seem to mind. Nikolas was happy his son had found someone who reciprocated his feelings.

Spencer eavesdropped as Nikolas expressed his disappointment over the divorce, but Kevin understood why Ava had to put her daughter first and implied Nikolas would do the same for his son. Esme found Spencer soon after and pointed out how great it was that their plan worked.

At Maxie Jones’ (Kirsten Storms) place, she got updates on Peter August (Wes Ramsey) showing up in Nixon Falls and threatening to take James West (Curtis and Owen Rufca) in place of Louise August (Harper and Scarlett Bloom). Maxie was furious and understood why Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) went to Liesl Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) for help since she would’ve done the same thing.

However, Nina admitted the plan went wrong and felt it was all her fault that Peter wasn’t in police custody. She admitted “Mike” the bartender was actually Sonny Corinthos and that she’d fallen in love with him. Nina explained the story to a stunned Maxie, who wasn’t too harsh due to her own mistakes.

Although Maxie wasn’t a fan of what Nina did, she still loved her. Maxie also offered a warning about reaching out to Sonny and Carly since things might not go the way Nina wanted. Afterward, Maxie summoned Britt to fill her in on the latest Peter and Liesl details.

In Nixon Falls, Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) told Anna and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) about Nina covering up Sonny’s survival. Valentin also found out Nina went against medical advice and left, so he felt she’d made another bad decision if she was headed for Port Charles.

Valentin worried about how Nina would be received, but he soon turned his attention back to Anna and their investigation since he wanted Peter dead. After a discussion about Drew, Anna got a call about the real Chloe Jennings being alive at the U.S. Consulate in Crete – though she’d been drifting in and out of consciousness due to an accident.

At home, Carly savored a cup of perfect coffee since Sonny was the one who made it. Sonny mentioned sleeping in the guest room since Carly felt asleep and he didn’t want to wake her. After Sonny donned a suit, Carly commented on how good he looked and teased him about his arrogance.

When Ava walked in the kitchen, she was shocked to see Sonny standing there and got a brief recap. Sonny didn’t give Ava a very warm reception and wasn’t happy to hear the stalker got close enough to put Ryan Chamberlain’s (Jon Lindstrom) voice in Avery Corinthos’ (Ava and Grace Scarola) teddy bear.

However, Sonny did respect that Ava was putting Avery first. Ava requested Sonny and Carly’s help saying goodbye to Avery, which Sonny thought went well. Ava also got Carly and Sonny to promise they’d send plenty of pics.

Once Ava was gone, Carly reflected on knowing what it was like to walk away from what you love with the goal of doing the right thing. Sonny assured Carly that nothing would ever take him from his family again, but she felt he couldn’t guarantee that.

Later, Sonny made his way to the cemetery and gazed at his own grave. He heard a noise behind him and looked over to see Nina standing there. As for Carly, she opened the door to Jason and mentioned that Sonny wasn’t home. Jason admitted he was actually there to talk to Carly.
