On tonight’s You, Me & My Ex season 1 episode 1 called, “My Ex and My Next,” as per the TLC synopsis, “Jerry moves his new young girlfriend, Kayee, into a house he shares with his ex-wife Jessica. Lisa still isn’t over her divorce from her ex Jimmy, even though it was decades ago. Alex went from Caroline’s gay best friend to her boyfriend.”

Chicago Il, Jessica, 40 years old, and Jerry, 4 years old, are divorced. The relationship they have is very complicated, they have a really strong love for each other. They have known each other for over twenty years and it is not uncommon for them to sleep in the same bed together. The best times they had together are their family times. They have four children and stayed married for fifteen years, didn’t talk for five years, and then reunited.
Now they live in the same house and Jerry has invited his new girlfriend, Kayee Lovey 26 years old. Kaycee is excited to move in, Jerry’s two sons are helping out. Jessica is not ok with this, Jerry met her online and she tells him that even he doesn’t know her. Jerry reminds Jessica that it is his house. When Jerry met Kayee, Jessica wasn’t living with him at the time. On their second date, Jerry was sick and ended up in the hospital, it was really bad and his family was told that he probably wouldn’t make it through the night. The reason why Jessica moved in was to help him rehabilitate and help with the children.
Jerry introduces the two women and tells Kayee that Jessica is happy to meet her, but that is not what it looks like on Jessica’s face. Kaycee admits that she wasn’t thrilled to find out that Jerry’s ex lived in the house. Her friends think she is crazy, but she has feelings for him and wants to know if it is real and not made up. Lorenzo doesn’t care that Kayee is there, he usually stays in his room anyway. Jerry has one small detail that he wasn’t honest about with Kayee, she is not staying in his bed, it is a little crowded.
Gillette, NJ, Jimmy, 52 years old, and Lisa, 51 years old – they were Jersey Shore before Jersey Shore. They met in 1987, she had a firecracker personality. She says he looked like Rick Springfield, she thought he was hot. They have a child together, Dominic who is 20 years old. Immediately she knew she met her soul mate, it’s a feeling that when you get, you just know. Then there is Wendy, she is 49 years old and she is Jimmy’s wife. They have been married for eighteen years and have a 14-year-old son named Alexander. When Wendy met Jimmy, she took on a lot of baggage.
She always wanted to be friends with Lisa and eventually they did make it work. Today things are ok with them, but she is still wrapped up in Jimmy’s life. They talk to each other three times a day. Sometimes she feels that Jimmy sees Lisa more than her. Jack, who is 55 years old shows up, he is Lisa’s fiancé. In the beginning, when Jack was dating Lisa, he was jealous of Jimmy. He always questioned whether they were still in love. The four start talking about the Rockstar RV that Lisa has rented to drive to their son to surprise him for his 21st birthday. Jack is worried, Lisa and Wendy didn’t get along for years and it was ugly, he hopes they can do this together.
Atlanta, GA, we meet a cat named, Cat-Arina Grande and Alex who is 27 years old, he calls Stephen, 30 years old, and his ex-boyfriend. Their whole relationship right now is facetime. Even though they broke up, they have remained super good friends. Some days they are talking all day. Alex is in a new relationship with Caroline, she is 28 years old. They met at work, she was technically his boss. He would go to her girl’s nights and meet her after work. S
he totally thought he was gay, and one night he just kissed her. Before dating Caroline, Alex dated men, but he doesn’t have a preference. She says that they have a special bond, they are best friends, they can gab and fight and a the end of the day, they are still best friends. Alex likes to live his life outside the box, he identifies as a tri-sexual, he will try anything. Caroline says Steve calls all the time, morning and night, it is so weird. Caroline says the struggle is internal, she hopes that she is going to be enough for Alex.
Back to Kayee and Jerry, he tells her that he made a bed for her in the other room. His daughter is eight years old and sometimes she goes in bed with Jerry and she doesn’t want her to be confused and find Kayee there. Jerry shows her the room he made up for her, he tells her it is temporary. It is basically the walk-in closet and he put a mattress in it. He tells her that she can control the firmness of the mattress, it is a blow-up.
He tells her it is here or downstairs in the game room, she chooses the game room. Jerry moves the mattress out. Jessica is not happy about the move, she says to Jerry, “for real.” She tells Jerry to give their son the respect to tell him about this. She is worried because Kayee is not far off from their son’s age and she is going to be very close to him. Kaycee thinks it was Jessica’s idea to put her in the closet.
Lisa is at home, Jimmy stops by to work with her over some photos to make a present for their son for his birthday. They get out the containers of photos and a letter that Jimmy wrote her a long time ago. He reads it to her and the two get emotional. Lisa was his first love, all he ever knew. She tells him that she never talked to their son about why they got divorced, she kept it a secret. She tells Jimmy that maybe it is time to tell their son the truth.
