Tonight’s episode begins with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Ritchie arriving in Las Vegas to judge the auditions.

Mariah Faith is 21 years and she is from Conway, South Carolina. She is here in honour of her step dad who she lost a few years ago. She is singing “Whenever You Come Around,” by Vince Gill. Katy stops her and tells her she is too safe, there is a lion that has to be let loose. Katy asks her to sing, “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”

Luke is all choked up, he says he had chills the hole time, she is on the edge of greatness. Lionel say this was the tip of the iceberg. Katy loves the subtleties in her voice, she says she is a star, she has it. It is three yes votes, she is going to Hollywood. Luke invites her to open up the next night for Noah Thompson and Huntergirl who are in town. We get a glimpse of her performance and she does amazing.

Nailyah Serenity is 22 years old from Charlotte, NC and she is singing, “My Man,” by Barbara Streisand.

Lionel loved it, totally enjoyed it. Katy says it was an incredible song choice, she loved it, it was surprising. Luke says her whole approach was like stopping traffic and that is what this business is. Three yes votes, she is going to Hollywood.

Kayleigh Clark is 17 years old and she is from Sumrail, Mississippi, she hunts and fishes. She is singing “The Dance,” by Garth Brooks. Luke thinks she could be a top ten contender. Katy thinks her voice is not filling the room, she wants it to wake her up and grab her attention. Lionel likes her as well, but she needs to waken up. It is two votes, Katy thinks she has to keep working, but she is still going to Hollywood.

PJAE is 23 years old from Lawton, Oklahoma. He grew up watching the show and always wanted to be on, he always felt comfortable on stage. He lost a lot of weight, 150 pounds and finally came into his own. He is singing, “Mirror,” by Madison Ryann Ward.

All three judges give him a standing ovation. Lionel says the kid can sing. Luke says he has been saying a lot of no this year because he was waiting for someone like him. Katy says she felt a wave of thrills. Lionel says the performance was something to talk about this is the beginning of something special for him. Three yes votes for him to move on to the next level.

Warren Paey is 23 years old from Bamberg, South Carolina – he is singing “To The Table,” by Zach Williams.

Luke says that was bad ass. Katy says he answered their prayers, he is authentic and she likes that song a lot. She just wants to hear more anger in his voice. Lionel says that is down the top ten road, he is strong. Three yes votes, he is going to Hollywood.

Carina Deangelo is 25 years old from Kailua, Hawaii and she is singing “Good Kisser,” by Lake Street Dive. Her family owns a meatball company and they bring some in for the judges,/ She gets a yes to go to Hollywood.

Paige Anne is 16 years old from Idaho Falls, Idaho and she is singing, “What About Us,” by Pink.

Katy says it was she’s not ready but the end, it was like she might be able to compete. Lionel agrees, but thinks it is her nerves that did it. Luke says she is young. Lionel is going to gamble, he gives her a yes. Katy doesn’t think she is ready. Luke says yes, she is going to Hollywood.

Next, we get to see a lot of hopefuls that don’t make it through. Luke says they need some bbq sauce and some gumbo.

Oprah Kablan is 20 years old from Clio, South Carolina and she is singing “Baby, I love You,” by Aretha Franklin. Lionel calls her their salvation girl. The judges are thrilled and all give her a yea vote to move on to Hollywood.

Kamron Lawson is 21 years old from Beckley, West Virginia and he says this is a dream come true. He has never left the state of West Virginia. He is going to sing, “Take On Me,” by a-ha. He tells the judges he was going to sing, “Truly,” by Lionel Richie and he does it.

Katy says he has a big instrument but she doesn’t know if he knows how to use it yet. Lionel says that song is hard, the fact that he tired it, nobody has done that before – but he thinks he needs to study a bit more. Luke thinks it is more confidence. Katy thinks if he is around other singers he will be ok. Katy says yes, there is something special about him, she wants to fight for him. Lionel says sometimes you just need experience, but it is a yes from him. Luke is also a yes, he is going to Hollywood.

Owen Eckhardt is 19 years old from Arrow, Oklahoma and he is singing, “Something in The Orange,” by Zach Bryan.

Katy says there is a little Elvis Presley in there. Lionel says they are going to have to push him. Luke says he does a lot of things wrong, but he has a great voice. Three yes votes. Katy brings in her puppy and tells Owen it is his last day at vet school, then Lionel brings out his dog.

Fire Wilmore is 22 years old from Lawton, Oklahoma and she is there with her four year old daughter Maja. She was born in a big family, her mother was in and out of drugs so she was given to the state. She is singing, “Talking To The Moon,” by Bruno Mars.

Lionel thinks she should be pushed, the more she discovers she won’t be nervous. Luke wanted her voice to be more, vocally it wasn’t as good as he was hoping. Katy says there wasn’t enough fire, but she appreciates that she wants it. Luke says no, Lionel says no, Katy won’t giver her a no because she has something there, it just hasn’t been worked out enough. Katy tells her that it is going to be ok, there is always going to be light in the darkness. Katy tells her they are going to be in Nashville in a month, they are going to give her a second chance, she didn’t call herself Fire for nothing.
