The Silver family as well as their friends came together to honor Ben Silver’s yahrzeit. It was the anniversary of his death. He left some big shoes to fill. He was a great and even a great stepdad. He never treated the girls differently. Though Jonah was admittedly his favorite because his sports team actually won games. Sarah and Lena did not. Sarah had to bribe her fellow players into letting her play. She bribed them a dollar per game to fake an injury. A dollar went far back then. Sarah still didn’t win any games. And her father, who was the coach, had her riding the bench so that everyone could get a chance to play.

It was great sharing stories about Ben. It put everyone in such a happy mood. Lena hadn’t converted when she was young and she didn’t get to have a bah mitzvah. It wasn’t until Ben passed that she finally embraced the faith fully. She simply didn’t convert before because of her grandpa. He was a Baptist Pastor. She felt that someone should keep their door open with his faith as well. Not that her grandpa wasn’t at the yahrzeit. He was there because they all loved Ben. He was a great husband and father. He was good man.

Ben just wasn’t infallible. There’s an old case of his that came across Mae’s desk as District Attorney. Mae was introduced to Joanna Daniels. She said that her son’s case was put before the Integrity Review Board. Mae sat on that board and she never heard the case. It’s because no one wanted to touch it now that Ben was gone. Ben was the judge that sentenced Joanna’s son Elijah Daniels ten years to prison. Elijah got into a bar fight with someone. The other person threw the first punch. Elijah was just protecting himself when he punched back and permanently injured his assailant.

Elijah’s case was what led to the Integrity Review Board. They oversee cases that seemed excessive. Ten years for defending himself against a drunk was indeed excessive and the board dismissed it without bringing it to Mae because they thought she would automatically defend her late husband’s decision. They underestimated Mae. Mae agreed with Joanna. Her son sentencing was excessive. Mae’s love for her husband doesn’t stop her from seeing Elijah’s side. Elijah doesn’t deserve ten years for defending himself. Mae’s father helped her see it.

Now comes the hard part. Mae has to tell her kids that she was messing with their father’s legacy. Lena was working a case with Danny. They were trying to find out who killed Henrey Chen. Which turned out to be connected to the bank robbery that Sarah was investigating. Sarah had an entire team outside of a bank during a bank robbery and then they did a read of body temperature only to find out that two people went missing. They breached the building. They didn’t find their bank robber or one of the hostages.

They somehow got out of the building in spite of being surrounded by cops. They used the tunnels that led to Henry Chen’s antique store. Jimmy Halloway worked for Chen. He gave the bad guys a key so that they could escape through the store when it’s empty. Only Chen went back for a flower. He got a rare orchid from China. He wanted it to be a peace offering with his daughter. She was dropping out of med school. She got into a huge fight with her dad about it. She went back to Pennsylvania because his last words to her was that this was a disappointment. And she felt like he was saying she was the disappointment.

The flower was something he saw growing up in China. He wanted to show his daughter one day. He expensively had it sent to the states just so she could see it and she never got the chance. Chen was killed by the people Jimmy owed money to. It’s why Jimmy gave them the key in the first place. He was just trying to pay off a debt. He gave money to a couple and they even hit a woman with their getaway car. Its how Jonah and Sean found them. They were following up on the hit and run. They called it in. Their respective sister and father showed up. Danny tried to keep Sean out of the action.

It didn’t work, but they later talked about it. Sean wasn’t a kid anymore. He was a cop. He was hoping that would make him and his father bond and instead he was getting the same Danny Reagan treatment from New York. Luckily, Jonah helped them bridge the gap. He showed them where he used to go with his own dad. It became Sean and Danny’s new spot. They talked about the cases. Like arresting Halloway and the other two. They talked about getting justice for the victims. Danny also mentioned that what he did with the boys wasn’t what his father or grandfather did when they were parenting solo. The others did a much better job.

Danny was still figuring things out the Danny way.

And Lena decided to finally convert to Judaism to honor Ben tonight.

THE END
