In tonight’s Boston Blue episode, Detective Lena Silver was getting dating advice from her mother when the call came in. There was a murder not that far away. Lena took with it her partner who also attended church service. Danny was still looking for a catholic church, but he appreciated her grandpa’s service.

He also appreciated the buffet at the end. He was eating and he had to leave his full plate to go with Lena to the scene. There was a young man killed in front of his family. They were on the way to a friend’s house for her birthday when the incident happened.

Someone tried to rob them. They killed the husband to take his valuables. The wife didn’t bother to fight because she had her young son with her and her first concern was him. She was still pretty shaken up after she lost her husband. The only thing keeping her standing seemed to be the son.

He was young. He probably didn’t truly understand what happened and he won’t until he realizes that his dad wasn’t coming home. This case touched Danny’s heart. He ran into the victim’s father who got the call as well.

The father wanted to see him. Danny told him he was better off not seeing him that way. Let his son being alive be his last memory. It will help with the grief. The father was sent away with the family. The cops checked the scene. They found out a car was recently broken into. The prints on it showed that it was Gary Ross.

Ross was part of an organized auto theft ring. He was looking for a particular make and model. When the family he described as bougie showed up in one, he was breaking in and he accidentally saw the killer.

Ross tried to run when they went to question him. He ruined Danny’s favorite suit with a water hose. He had to be tackled by Lena and she learned that move fighting with Sarah over the remote.

Ross eventually assisted with the investigation. Once they got him over the snitching thing. He saw the killer’s face. He identified him as Thomas Baldwin. He has an arrest record of aggravated robbery. They just couldn’t arrest him based on a car thief’s testimony. Lena’s mom wanted more evidence.

They couldn’t arrest Baldwin until they had evidence. The victim’s father was seen handing out fliers looking for witnesses. Danny and Lena asked him if he knew Baldwin. Their witness swears he saw Baldwin waiting on the family before he made his move. This wasn’t a spur of the moment crime. Not when the suspect was casing the scene days before the incident. They asked Mat Miller Senior if he knew this man and he did because Baldwin was his daughter-in-law’s ex-boyfriend. Evelyn Miller dated Baldwin before he went to prison.

Then he goes away for robbery. Evelyn married Matt Jr. They bought a big house in a great neighborhood. They were living the dream until he gets married by her ex-boyfriend. One she was still in contact with. Their phone records showed she was in frequent contact with Baldwin.

They’ve been talking at night and the calls officially stopped the day before the murder. Evelyn then moved to her landline to call Baldwin’s burner phone to tell him that she was leaving the house with her husband.

Now, their whole story about going back to the old neighborhood was the friend’s birthday. Evelyn even said she rang the doorbell and her friend Miriam never answered. Miriam said no one rang her bell. This along with the fact that they tested her doorbell just to find no fingerprints was enough for them.

They believed Evelyn killed her rich husband with the help of her ex-con lover. They wanted to issue warrants for both arrests. They think they could get Evelyn to flip on Baldwin under the right pressure.

It was just Mae wouldn’t sign off on it. She holds Lena to a higher standard than anyone else. She was tougher on her because Lena was so much like her.

That and Mae had bad news for the family. She arrested the Assistant District Attorney Beekman. His arrest could reopen all his cases. This included her late husband’s. Sarah knew about it. Mae doesn’t. Then again there was a lot that Mae didn’t know. Mae was reminded at family dinner that sometimes secrets fester. Jonah and Sean arrested a fire captain for drunk driving. He also punched Sean.

They were still told by their captain then by their Chief to drop the charges. They were called snitches. They dropped the charges. But Sarah reinstated them because the man they arrested needed help. He was known as the firehouse drunk. He was an alcoholic. He was going to keep going until he goes into rehab.

Sarah made sure he went into rehab. He and his buddies were thinking of filing excessive force complaints against Jonah and Sean. And it was Sarah who made sure those complaints got dropped.

The boys fixed things with their station’s bully by standing up to him. Sarah fixed everything else. She was willing to accept rehab over jail time because of her boyfriend. He had a problem with drinking. He stopped before he became a danger to anyone. Its why he was so hard on his now teenage daughter for drinking.

He doesn’t want her to end up like him. He started that age and it was a long time before he pulled himself out of the bottle. Only things with Mae shifted after dinner. She agreed to conduct a grand jury on the suspects’ possible arrests.

It was enough for them to bring Evelyn in. They got Lena’s grandpa to talk to her. He was a reverend and Evelyn was religious before Baldwin got out of prison.

The Reverend got her to open up. She later confessed that Baldwin had a hold on her since they were kids. She hasn’t called him after her husband’s death because she saw the look on Matt’s face when he recognized the gunman. He knew she had set him up. It made Evelyn feel so guilty and that’s why she was so distraught at the scene. It was grief or at least not initially. It was regret for her actions.

The Reverend got her to confess by telling her his secret. Mae’s mother didn’t die in a car accident. She took her own life and he never told Mae the truth in all these years. So, there were plenty of things festering under the surface but Mae told Lena that she pushes her and she doesn’t mean to push her away. She just wants to protect Lena in her own way.

THE END!
