Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan) from General Hospital (GH) lost a friend when Cheers star George Wendt passed away earlier this week. So, he likes to imagine him sitting in Heaven full of family and special loved ones. Read on to find out why.
On-Screen George Was A Regular In A Bar
Most fans of the American sitcom on NBC will remember George Wendt swilling plenty of beer while he dropped amusing one-liners. In a Season 4 scene, he was even shown stealing an ashtray to give to his wife for her birthday. That’s how many folks remember him: witty, a little bit naughty, and bringing belly laughs.
Chris McKenna, however, likes to think of the man who helped him land his first movie lead role as a family man. In his latest tribute to Wendt, he recalled:
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a photo of my son sleeping on my chest. He responded with a picture from the early ’80s of his infant son sleeping on his. He wrote one word – ‘Heaven.’ While the world imagines him on a barstool in the sky, I’ll picture him in the heaven he wanted.
Fans Respond To The Imagined Heaven
GH and Cheers fans took to the comments section of the Instagram post. One of them wrote, “Oh, this is a sweet story! Thanks for sharing it! Makes me wish I’d been fortunate enough to call him friend as well!”
The real-life Jack Brennan has many ABC fans consoling him over his loss. But others like to imagine a heaven full of family. Another follower wrote, “I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear friend, who we mostly knew affectionately as ‘Norm.'”
Others like the heartwarming side of the tribute. “What a heartwarming story for you to share with all of us – he was a true legend. May your beautiful memories…bring you peace and comfort. RIP Sir, heaven just got a little funnier and louder,” one of them penned.
Remembering George Wendt
Chris McKenna is not the only actor who remembered George fondly. Ted Danson, John Ratzenberger, Rhea Perlman, and Melissa Joan Hart all sent their memories and regards to the family that George left behind.
Meanwhile, on X, plenty of folks shared their own memories of the amusing scenes of George in the bar. So far, it seems that Chris is one of the few who will remember him as a man who loved his family. He and his wife, Bernadette Birkett, raised three children. He was also a stepdad to two others.
