Fire Country Recap
Bode was right about his dad. Vince didn’t cheat on Sharon. Besides that one kiss he told her about. The only thing that Vince was hiding was the fact that Sharon’s mother was trying to shake him down for money. Sharon can now deal with her mother and Bode had other concerns as well.
He learned that the Zabel Ridge Fire might have been man-made. It could be human error. It also could be intentional. Bode was hoping it was an accident the same way he wanted to believe whoever set the fire that crippled the town was perhaps an outsider.
Someone passing through.
What they found however disproves that theory. Bode had 42 aide the ATF Agents in investigating. They went through the origin point of the fire. They found accelerant. They also found a lighter from Smokey’s. Bode tried to talk to ATF Special Agent Ruffin about it.
She told him that his job was just to search for items. The real investigation will be done by investigators. Ruffin knew all about Bode’s past. She also knew about Manny’s past too. She told Manny to keep his people in line or she’d go up CalFire’s chain of command.
Manny tried to warn Bode. He reminded him that his parole ended that night. He’d be free afterwards and so now wasn’t the time to push boundaries. Only this was Bode. He had to push. Bode tried to tell Ruffin about Jeff Branick.
Branick used to work at Smokey’s. He also got in trouble recently for setting off illegal fireworks in the woods. Bode felt for sure that Branick must have started the fire. He became obsessed with the idea even as Ruffin told him to go through proper channels.
Ruffin didn’t want Bode interrupting her lunch to share his hunches. He had to call the tip line like everyone else. Bode said that could take weeks and Ruffin reminded him it took that long for them to properly investigate every lead. Bode just couldn’t drop it. He started the episode as the voice of reason.
He intended to end it with him being Bode Leone. Bode was looking for trouble and Sharon found help with her mom problem. She invited over her father-in-law to ask him if Vince had ever shared what her mom held over Vince.
Sharon found from Papa Leone that her motorcycle accident clinched things for Vince. The accident happened after Riley’s funeral. Sharon’s mother had implied that if she had been a better mother that Riley would never have died. Nor would Bode have left town.
It was a cruel thing to say. Sharon then got into a motorcycle accident that made Vince feared she had a death wish and so he made a choice. He told her mother Ruby to stay away from them. He went as far as paying her off just to keep the woman away.
Ruby has a lot of issues. She was heavily medicated to deal with them. Well, she’s supposed to be only sometimes Ruby doesn’t take her meds. She wasn’t a good or even a kind mother. She pretended she was when really it was Wes the stepfather doing the heavy lifting.
Sharon couldn’t handle her mother and so her staying away was the best thing to happen and it was all thanks to Vince. Vince literally bribed the woman. He was gone now. He no longer has to pay her and odds are that Ruby will reenter the picture.
Papa Leone was having one of his good days. He could recall everything. He said Vince never came to him for anything. He came to him for help with this and there was more to share. Walter recalled what happened the night Vince died. The blast happened and he saw Vince.
Vince was already dead when he dragged Sharon out of there. He wouldn’t have left otherwise. He wasn’t a perfect father. Only he still would have fought to get to his son if he thought there was a chance he could save him. It was the truth that could finally give Sharon some closure.
Sharon later called her mom to say that the payments stopped and to still stay away.
Her son however was going off on his own. They had a tough call earlier that day. They were called out to the fire at a BBQ place. Jake used to go there with his father and so he made sure that no matter what – the building stayed standing. He even risked his life to do so.
He also gave Bode an idea. Bode has been trying to do things the law-abiding way and he decided to go back to his roots. He was about to break the law when his loved ones stopped him. Manny called him. Manny heard that Bode took one of the trucks to get more gas and he knew he filled up that truck the day before.
Manny went after Bode. Bode went after Branick. He stopped after that phone call. It’s a good thing too. ATF were soon knocking on Branick’s door with a warrant. They did follow up Bode’s lead.
They determined that Branick had an alibi the day of the fires. He couldn’t have set it. Bode almost went vigilante on him and he was innocent.
It’s a good thing Manny stayed a voice in his ear. And Bode had some of those ribs from Mabel’s with Jake to help honor both of their dads.
Eve also discussed kids again with her girlfriend Fran. Fran put in an application to foster a child. Eve wasn’t ready to coparent, but she was willing to be there for Fran and support her.
THE END!
