In tonight’s Tracker episode, Colter was off to Michigan to help a desperate mother. Susanna Adam’s daughter disappeared. She tried going to the police and they wouldn’t listen to her.
Her daughter was an adult. She was missing less than twenty-four hours at the time. There was no sign of foul play. Riley wasn’t considered a priority. It also didn’t help that her mom could be a little much. They wrote her off as dramatic and in actuality she was concerned. She’s been concerned for a while. She put her daughter into pageants. Riley did well.
Riley has always been beautiful, charming, and popular.
Riley even got a modeling contract in New York City. She moved out there. She worked for a bit. She was featured in several magazines and then she just returned home. She gave up the career. The notoriety. She returned and she didn’t have a reason. Susanna tried asking about it.
Only Riley would never tell her why. Riley got a job at a gardening center. There weren’t much options in town. They used to be a tourist town until covid hit. The business packed up and moved to greener pastures. The town could no longer afford their own police force. They relied on the Sheriff’s office.
The one that works for the whole district. They were spread thin. It was why they were happy to write off Riley and her mother. Especially not after Susanna admitted she wasn’t on the best terms with her daughter. Her daughter lived with her and she kept pushing Riley for answers.
The mom wanted to know what happened in the city. She was worried that Riley was running from some trouble. She was also disappointed that her daughter gave up a successful career to come back to their small town. She kept pushing. And so Riley barely communicated.
Susanna knew her daughter was upset with her. She also knew Riley well enough to know her daughter wouldn’t let her worry. She would have called or texted if she wasn’t making it home.
Riley’s friends also haven’t heard from her. Detective Katie Douglas got involved because her young sister was one of those friends. Douglas didn’t think to be concerned at first. It wasn’t until she heard that Colter was in town looking for Riley that she introduced herself and he told her that Suanna hired him.
Colter also spotted what the others missed. Riley’s car had been run off the road. She was probably targeted. Katie was able to use Colter’s evidence to get Riley’s case treated as critical missing. She was off doing that when Colter stopped by the garden center. He ran into Cheryl Davies. She claimed to be Riley’s best friend.
She said they’ve been friends their whole lives. She agreed to help Colter in any way she could. She showed Colter to Riley’s work locker and he found a creepy note inside. It was very stalkerish.
Colter asked Cheryl about it. Cheryl said that Riley was used to having some zealous fans. They didn’t upset her anymore. Colter did some digging. He soon learned that a guy in a rich car was seen bothering Riley.
The guy turned out to be Vincent Rourke. Colter confronted him. Vincent wouldn’t hurt Riley. Not now anyways. She was carrying his baby. She didn’t want anything from him. She was going back and forth on whether to keep the child. It’s why she didn’t bother touching the money or the bank account that Vincent set up for her.
Riley was five months along. She left New York because of it. Not even her mother knew about it. Riley’s stalker did. The stalker just wasn’t Vincent. It was Cheryl. Vincent had told Colter about someone smashing up his car the other day and Colter recognized the women’s floral design on the nails from the surveillance video.
It was Cheryl’s. She was stalking Riley. She has been since high school. They were never really friends. Cheryl was a tag along. She dressed like Riley and always wanted to be around her. It got mistaken for popular girl worship back then. People know better about stalkers now.
Colter went to Cheryl’s home with Douglas. They found Riley’s car smashed up in the garage. Her cell phone in the front seat was also smashed up. Douglas used the probably cause to enter Cheryl’s home and she found her dead of an apparent suicide. Colter however saw right through the scene.
Cheryl didn’t kill herself. She didn’t write the note on the wall claiming she killed Riley either. Sure, she was a stalker and that meant she knew Riley better than most. She knew about someone else paying additional attention to Riley since she came back town.
Cheryl wasn’t killed at her home. She confronted this other stalker. Colter had his friends Bobby and Randy track her movements. Cheryl’s phone was last online at the Harper household.
Tyler Harper was a private contractor. His wife was a nurse. Tyler did some work at Cheryl’s house. He must have found her notebook. The one showing that Cheryl stalked Riley and the one that said Riley couldn’t make up her mind about keeping her baby. The cops raided the Harper’s home after they connected them to Cheryl’s murder. They found the graves.
Tyler and his wife Monica had two miscarriages. They buried them out in the back in the garden. They have their own tombstones. Their loss was deeply felt and so Colter realized what this was all about.
The Harpers took Riley for her baby. Reenie called in some favors. She found out they tried for ten years to have one of their own. They depleted their savings paying for IVF. They had two miscarriages and were out of options. They couldn’t adopt. Tyler has a prison record. He served time for unvoluntary manslaughter. His wife also wasn’t a real nurse.
Her real name is Lisa. She got sent to a psychiatric hospital after she was caught impersonating a neonatal nurse. She was obsessed with babies. It’s why they tried so hard to have one of her own.
Then they hear about Riley being pregnant but not wanting it. It must have hurt. They grabbed her hoping to steal her baby. The cops put out an APB. They found Tyler after he shot a deputy. Tyler was deliberately luring them away when he did that and Colter realized it. He went back to the Harper house. He noticed an extension they hadn’t spotted before.
There, he found Monica with Riley. Riley was unconscious. She was knocked out with a sedative to keep her quiet and Monica just couldn’t let go of her chance at parenthood. She threatened to kill Riley.
Colter saw through her bluff. He saw those graves. He knew how desperate she was to get a child. Riley’s baby was her last chance and she knew it. She couldn’t bring herself to harm the baby. They used that against her. Monica was arrested. Riley was saved. And Riley quickly returned to her mom.
Riley decided to keep the baby after all. The whole experience convinced her and Susanna was supportive. She was never going to judge her daughter’s choices again after all this.
And Colter was back on the road once he got the reward.
THE END!
