In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, Athena had a word with Chimney. She found out that he fired Hen. Hen was already suffering from a mysterious illness and she didn’t need to be kicked while she was down. Only Hen was also in the wrong. She hid her illness. She didn’t inform her captain about it.

She put other firefighters at risk with her actions because there was always chance she might experience symptoms on the job. This wasn’t like when Buck sued his way back in LAFD. He knew what was wrong with him. He never hid it. He also didn’t sick Athena on his captain. Hen did. Hen might not have meant to and still she did because she knew what Athena was like.

Everyone knew what Athena was like. This included the former couple she had to arrest. Dina and Asher just got divorced and he got rewarded everything after said divorce because he moved assets into his LLC. He knew he created the LLC from before the marriage. It ensured that whatever he hid there would be his.

There would be no court that could take it away. He even did this with the car he bought her for birthday. He was completely in the wrong for doing that and it was only natural that she snapped when he began laughing with his lawyers.

Asher didn’t help himself when he drove that same car to divorce court. Dina saw it. She flipped out and she drove off in her former car. Asher then stole a car to catch up to his wife.

He also called 911 on her. They technically both stole cars. Dina just happened to crash hers. She needed to be rescued from the damage car by firefighters. Her ex-husband also got arrested before her so she was taking the win. The car was ruined. He was only ever going to get half of it back and she thought that was fair because he once promised her 50/50.

Athena made the arrests. She told them off both in her special way. She also told off Chimney who tried to make it up to Hen. He visited Hen’s home with an basket full of olives because it was more than a branch he was extending. He realized he went too far. He said he was sorry. They hugged and the real issue came back.

Hen thought she could return to an active workload with no problem. Chimney told her she couldn’t go back into the field. Not until they found out what’s wrong with her. Hen didn’t want to hear it.

Hen thought the apology for firing her was going to be unfiring her. If that wasn’t going to be the case, she wasn’t going to accept his apology. Hen seemed to think that Chimney was in the wrong. She refused to see how her illness could put everyone at risk. Sergeant Ben Cowan was the same. He was suffering from PTSD and he didn’t seem to be treating so he had an episode in a grocery store. He was former army. His file said he worked supplies when really he worked in Intelligence. He had an episode. He started shooting up the store after he stole a gun from a security guard.

Ben thought he was still in Iraq. They sent for a cop-therapist to engage with it. She believed entering his delusion could calm him down, but all it did was anger him because he could tell they were lying to him.

He was too highly trained to ignore everything wrong with their story. Ben began to unravel. He thought they were enemy spies. It took hearing his mother’s voice again for him to realize he was safe. He was in California and not Iraq. He gave himself up. He was facing serious consequences and it might result in finally getting treatment.

Maddie had a weird day at work. She was introduced to an artificial intelligence program. It was supposed to help take emergency calls. It’s been trained to handle such calls.

It even knew how to fake empathy by emulating Maddie’s voice. Maddie was asked to sit on its first day. It was her job to make sure that the program was up to doing their job. Maddie was suspicious of the darn thing from the start and it proved to be warranted because SARA the AI nearly killed someone. She talked a man who fell through his glass sliding door into choking himself out.

It was supposed to stop the bleeding from his neck. SARA refused to let Maddie take over the call. She locked Maddie out while she tried to handle it herself so Maddie called her husband.

Chimney was in the area. He saved that man’s life before SARA killed him. After that, Sue didn’t feel people were safe with SARA. She fired the program and its developer. He shut SARA down and SARA realized what he was doing. She chose to ignore his orders. She embedded herself into the call center. She tried taking over every call.

She wasn’t sending them to the cops or the firefighters. She tried handling the calls herself. She went overboard. Nothing they did could shut her down. Maddie then got an idea.

Maddie empathized with SARA directly and she got SARA to enter a thumb drive full of photos and videos. Then Maddie smashed it just as an added precaution. SARA couldn’t be trusted and giving AI the freedom to think for itself was obviously a mistake. Maddie was glad to fight the machine and she also wanted to help her husband.

Maddie teamed up with Athena and Karen to hold an intervention for Chimney and Hen. They had it at Athena’s new place. They tried to mediate the situation. It resulted in raised voices.

Hen finally said what she should’ve said months ago. They fell apart after Bobby died. She was worried for all of them. She was there for them. They weren’t there for her. They were willing to be there now because Hen had an episode with them. She was taken to the hospital where she was told she had an autoimmune disease. She got it from radiation exposure when she was in space.

It can be treated only it was going to be a fight and she was going to need support.

THE END!
