The boys responded to a disturbance call. Sean and Jonah were responding to fishermen capturing a great white shark. Yet the species was a protected one. They weren’t supposed to be hunted. It didn’t matter if there was a shark attack a few days ago. They were still protected. There was a shark activist who argued with the fishermen.
She was calling them monsters. She’s the reason the cops were called. Jonah and Sean were breaking up the argument when the activist stabbed the shark carcass that he couldn’t be taxidermized. And it was only once she stabbed a gaping wound in the stomach that an arm fell out.
A human arm fellow out of the shark’s stomach. The detectives had to be brought in for this one. Lena and Danny caught. Danny spent his morning in an HR session for sergeants.
They were told not to confuse friendship with work. It was even suggested that they didn’t have to befriend their partners when they hold the higher rank. Danny thought that sounded wrong until the lady holding the seminar pointed out everything that can happen. Danny has already taken his fellow cop to task for poor work behavior. He didn’t want to have to do the same with Lena.
There was just one problem. Lena hates sharks. She saw the movie “Jaws”. It traumatized her so much that she couldn’t be around sharks and that goes for the dead ones too.
She can’t go into the water either. She tried to get this shark case passed to someone else. Danny refused to give it up. The arm belonged to someone who had been cut up from before the shark ate pieces of him. Their victim was later identified as Steve Renoylds. He was a marine biologist. He wanted to push through with a bill to protect great white sharks.
It was a passion shared by his whole family. He runs a shark sanctuary. His wife works there. Their son loves growing up around sharks. The family believed sharks were great for the marine ecosystem.
They were pushing forward an actual bill to protect them. It annoyed quite a few people. Like the activist from earlier. Her name is Wave Shaye. She swims with sharks for views. She had no reason to dislike Steve. They disagreed on Steve’s bill. They disagreed on Wave turning the sharks into content. It just that she claimed not to dislike him because he was good for business.
Wave added that their arguments brought a lot of traffic to her webpage. She was getting richer thanks to him. Her endorsements were paying for the best equipment possible. She also had dash cam on her boat of her coming back to shore and the footage picked up Steve going out into the water with his intern. The PHD intern who covered up the fact that Steve did take the boat out. She was later arrested. She was questioned. She genuinely thought she killed the guy because they got into an argument and she pushed him into the water. She initially thought he’d swim back.
Steve was a diver. Not that it mattered because the intern didn’t kill him. Steve was dismembered. The intern didn’t know about it and she happily gave them everything in terms of access. They found no blood anywhere. She didn’t kill anyone. She merely pushed her former mentor off the boat because he refused to sign her Harvard recommendation letter. She got back to shore. Steve never made it back to land. They thought the fishermen might’ve been angry enough to kill because Steve’s bill would kill commercial fishing. Or so they felt.
They attended a council meeting to address the matter. It was too revealed that Wave was sleeping with the enemy – a fisherman. They were each other’s alibis. Which was odd because someone took her boat back onto the water. It was her camera operator. His name is Dylan. Dylan was super protective of Wave because he bought her story about saving the sharks and didn’t realize it was all a cash grab. The detectives were making that arrests while Sarah fixing one of her old ones. She put an innocent man in jail for a rape he didn’t commit.
It turns out he pled guilty rather than risked it because he was scared of serving a longer sentence. His lawyer was also really bad and so he’d rather do ten years than thirty. One guaranteed he got to see his daughter before she fully grew up. he was up for parole this year only he refused to repeat the lie. He wouldn’t claim he assaulted someone when he was innocent. He told the District Attorney as much. Sarah was there for the meeting. She saw he was innocent. No one guilty would risk their freedom after ten years in prison.
Sarah reinvestigated. She found the real person responsible. She couldn’t get him for the crime that Dane served time on. She got him for the others all the same. It got Dane released from prison. It got justice for the victim. It also helped enact new rules. The reason the real perp walked was because police weren’t sharing with their fellow officers or constantly testing the rape kits. Now, the tests were finally getting tested. There will be no more Danes with Sarah and Mae working together to stop it.
Sean and Jonah also caught a wanted fugitive when they helped two feuding neighbors get along. The neighbors were keeping secrets that broke down their relationship until the officers brought peace. They got to the truth behind the secrets even as Lena and Danny arrested Dylan. A man who killed someone to prove to Wave he loved her. It hadn’t been actual love. It also got Danny to stop repeating HR talking points. He was back to joking around with Lena.
THE END!
