The federal agent stuck in their office was doing a financial audit. He had questions about an old case from 2023. He tried asking Voight about it and Voight said everything was in the file. Except it wasn’t. There were missing portions of the file. Voight claimed they might’ve gotten misplaced or moved elsewhere.
He claimed he didn’t know and he didn’t care. He hated that the other man was in his office much less snooping through his old case files. Voight called Trudy Platt. He asked for information on the fed. He wanted to have dirt on the guy in case this “audit” backfired into something more.
It probably was for the best that a lot of files were missing because Voight ran his team like a gang. They did shady stuff. It wasn’t always for the right reasons. It became for the right reasons.
It happened after Voight got into legal trouble and he still colors outside of the line every now and then. He does those for the right reasons as well. The fed was digging into the Dominguez’s case. It was a tough one for Voight. He wasn’t going to allow someone to reopen or use it against him. He was going to shut down this audit.
Or he was until he heard from an old criminal informant. LeSean used to work for him. He stopped once his federal charges were expunged. He was now married and he has a son heading to college. He called Voight out of the blue. He heard some chatter. He thought it would interest the cop that Voight still technically was.
He told him to check the water by a substation. Voight had people check it and they found the remains of a Jane Doe. She was cut into pieces. They were all in separate bags. They had no way of knowing who she was because at first they couldn’t find a head.
It just didn’t stop a bunch of mothers from coming to the Medical Examiner’s Office. They heard that a black young woman’s remains were found. They were hoping it wasn’t one of their daughters. There were three missing teenage girls from the past two months. One of them matched the description they found connected to the head.
The head had floated downwards. They eventually spotted it. Her name was Kendra Simmons. She started working at a women’s shelter to look good for college. Then she came to love the job.
It made her see some worrying signs in her boyfriend. The same boyfriend that her mom didn’t know about. Kendra was sixteen when she began “dating” the thirty-two year old drug dealer named Rob Parker. He was also known as B-Rock. He ran a corner not far from the shelter. He’s been questioned on drugs for years. They never got any charges to stick. It was also an open secret that he likes young girls. They found the messages to Kendra from the burner phone. It was all bad poetry and phone sex until she slowly began distancing herself from him.
Kendra was realizing what the relationship was. She wasn’t the love of his life. She was a child he was grooming because he was a pedophile. B-Rock didn’t like her ending things. He found her, tortured her, and killed her. They just had to prove it. They had enough to get wiretap him. Voight kept all eyes on him while Imani put the bug in B-Rock’s car. They thought it worked. They were hearing conversations right till it stopped. It stopped rather suddenly. The bug had been found and not by B-Rock.
By his driver. His driver was Tia Atwell. She ran a corner. It wasn’t doing too well. Tia used the bug to lure Voight and Imani into meeting with her because she was ready to make a deal. Tia was willing to give them information to put B-Rock in prison for life. She just wanted thirty grand in return. Voight was fine with it. He would’ve given her the money from the Reward fund. She was technically giving them information to close a case. Voight tried that and it got denied because of that fed. The fed said the fund has been temporarily frozen.
Boyd suggested they use private donors. Voight said those came with strings attached. He didn’t want to go down that route. He tried working Tia another angle. Her sister was in prison facing life and Tia didn’t care. She said that her sister was a monster. Her whole family was full of them. Its why she was in the life in the first place. Tia wanted enough money to get out of Chicago. She wanted to start over somewhere new or at most that’s what she pretended was going to happen. She gave them information on where B-Rock killed the girl.
Voight made sure she got the money. She was on a bus to New Jersey. The money was going to be allocated from the Missing Persons Fund thanks to Boyd pulling some strings. Voight didn’t have to answer to anyone. He also found out that Boyd was from Flint, Michigan. He knew a lot of people that got sick because of the water there. Voight found no dirt on him. It doesn’t mean its not there, but Voight was going to keep looking into FBI Special Agent Charlie Boyd. Tia got her money and disappeared.
The team found where Kendra was murdered. They moved to arrest B-Rock. He chose to draw his weapon on the cops and was killed for it. The strangest thing is that his corner was livelier than ever after his death. Business suddenly picked. It was as if someone knew they could profit from B-Rock’s death. Voight found out about it from his former CI. He later went to go talk to LeSean to see what was happening when he found his old friend dead.
LeSean told them where they could find the body and he was killed for it.
THE END!
