The Zabel Ridge Fire was back in the news now that ATF has made an arrest. CalFire hasn’t named Tyler as the suspect. They just released that he confessed to the crime and that he was a minor. Luke also credited Bode with the arrest. He said that Bode got the suspect to confess. He then gave Bode the mic to answer questions but Bode choked. He said he had gotten close to the suspect. It made him sounded like he was buddying up to the arsonist responsible for killing his father. Luke quickly ended the press briefing right afterwards.
Luke later talked to Bode. He said that he needed to get Tyler out of his head. He did his best for the kid. Its not fault that Tyler was more troubled than they realized. It was on his mother or so Luke and Sharon claimed. Sharon was ticked off with all she did for the Mackenzies. She couldn’t believe they stayed at her house. Sharon felt that Chloe had to have known because if she didn’t it was a failure of parenting. Sharon also kicked out Chloe. Chloe was still dealing with an abusive ex now on top of having a kid in jail. And so that was really kicking someone when they were down.
Only Sharon had a right to her anger. She lost her husband. She buried him next to their daughter and she only has Bode left of her original family. It also didn’t help that her mom came to town. The woman was a leech. Vince used to pay her to stay away. He started doing that after the woman claimed their daughter Riley died because Sharon was a bad mother. Vince was now gone. There was no one left to protect Sharon from her mother and so naturally the woman wormed her way back in her life.
Sharon has been getting questions all day about naming the arsonist. She refused to do so. It was against the law and just plain wrong. Still, somehow his name leaked to the public. It happened conveniently after Sharon gave her mother her phone. Sharon simply wanted a break from all the calls. She never expected her mom would do what she did. Sharon didn’t see it as a betrayal at first because she thought Chloe was just accusing her without evidence. It wasn’t until she checked her phone that she began questioning what happened.
Luckily, going for her phone had Ruby telling the truth. It was a first for her. Ruby admitted she leaked Tyler’s name to the press. She broke the law and had the nerve to claim she did it because she was worried about Sharon. She said she hated seeing Sharon struggling. Bode was struggling as well. He tried to keep his head focused on REMS team tryouts. He was doing great till he saw Tyler’s name leaked. He suddenly had people asking him about it and it led to him making a mistake. He was asked twice on whether or not he was all in.
Bode had to decide. Was he going to try to help the Mackenzies again or was he finally going to help himself? Bode was still deciding as Sharon kicked her mother out. Again! Ruby managed to turn the whole thing around so that she was the victim and Sharon was hurting her feelings by not accepting help. It was typical Ruby. Ruby used to do the same all throughout Sharon’s childhood. Its no wonder the only stepfather she still gets on with happens to be an illegal weed dealer. Sharon hated the responsibility of always have to take care of a grown up woman.
Ruby was the parent. The one time Sharon worked up the courage to ask her to stay away – she ignored her. Sharon felt so dumb for ever believing Ruby again and now she felt like she owed Chloe an apology. Bode then made up for his own mistake. He found a firefighter that had gotten injured. He helped her to finish the course and it showed his head was where it needed to be. Even if he didn’t make it onto REMS. The fellow firefighter he saved was Eleanor Davis. She was the sister to Malcolm from their mom side.
Malcolm was on the road to recovery. It helped mend the rift between Jake and Manny. Manny also helped out Eve at Three Rock. He called in her dad. Her dad gifted her a tractor that he later crashed by accident. He said his eyes were going. He has glaucoma. He wanted to see more of Eve while he still could. His condition was too far gone for treatment. He was going to go blind and that was it. Eve was asked to show up at the family’s ranch for a family meeting. They were going to decide on what to do next together.
In the meantime, her dad was going to help Three Rock grow their own vegetables because their last batch was a mess.
Bode still made it onto REMS for his heroic save of Eleanor. It made him realize that he needed to hear from Tyler himself what really happened the day of the fire. So, he visited him in prison.
