In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode, Teddy’s phone call with Owen was disconnected right as the bridge went down. She heard it on the television at the hospital.
She began to worry about Owen. She didn’t know if he was alive or dead so she asked Ben to reach out to his contacts. Ben was a former firefighter. He remained friends with a lot of them. They can tell him if someone matching Owen’s description was found near or in the wreckage. Teddy was in such a daze that it was actually Ben who called in everyone to assist with the event.
Owen had been on the bridge. Only he survived it. He got out of his car. he swam to what remained debris he could find. He checked on the cars down there.
There was one guy too far gone in one car and a family in another. The family were alive. The daughter wasn’t talking. She seemed to be in shock. Her name is Laney. She was crying and she refused to say anything. Her leg was pinned. Her mother was worst off. The debris hit the mom in the throat. Owen had to puncture a hole into her neck to help her breathe.
Once mom was out, Laney began taking a turn for the worst. She suffered internal bleeding. They had to get her out fast and they couldn’t wait on the tools to do so. Owen had to amputate her leg in the field. He was doing that as back at the hospital Nick was brought in.
Nick had also been on that bridge. Meredith claimed to be his wife so that she could be there as he was getting treated. Nick laughed about it only he wasn’t doing too well. He needed surgery fast. Cass had come in to help. Cass offered to perform the surgery and Meredith refused to hear it.
Meredith demanded that she be the one to perform. They couldn’t allow that. No hospital could allow that and so Meredith went to Bailey. Bailey was still benched after she tried to cover for Kwan.
Yet, they were both truly needed during a crisis. Bailey agreed to perform surgery on Nick for Meredith. Meredith already lost one husband to an incompetent surgeon that she didn’t want it happening a second time. It was nothing against Cass personally. Meredith just wanted hands she knew she could trust.
Teddy also agreed to let Kwan returned for a day because the Emergency Department was overrun. Richard was upset by that and Teddy said unless he planned on injecting another patient with an experimental drug – he can stay. At least for the day that is. Kwan was still Kwan though.
He saw a woman come in with a field trach and assumed some survivalist nutjob did it. Teddy recognized the keychain as Owen’s. It assured her that Owen was still alive. Owen stayed with that family until everyone was freed from it.
He then went with the father in the ambulance. Owen was safe. Teddy could focus again. She continued treating patients. She later assisted Owen with the father’s surgery. She left Kwan alone to finish closing because its not like he was going to get another chance. This was last hurrah. He had gotten fired and Richard was making sure he stayed fire. Even Bailey got in trouble for doing Nick’s surgery. Catherine warned her that being a great surgeon doesn’t mean she stopped being in trouble.
This one day was tough on everyone. It was even tough on Wes Bryant. He hadn’t found out that his friends with benefits hooked up with someone else.
He just helped a pregnant woman in a coma give birth in spite of a broken pelvis. He watched a miracle even as he found out that thirteen died in that accident. It was a tough day that got better for two people. Teddy and Owen agreed to move to Paris together. They didn’t want a divorce. They wanted to try again and hopefully a change of scenery will be what they needed.
Amelia also made a mistake. She later slept with Cass. Toni found out about it. It assured her that she should get back together with her ex who agreed to move to Seattle to be with her.
Nick survived surgery and he woke up to see Meredith at his bedside. Meredith being in that position was hard on her. It brought back her worst fears, but it brought out Amelia’s worst instinct. The upside being that she hadn’t drunk anything or taken pills. Her nephew wasn’t much better. Lucas finally apologized for how he treated Simone after Katie died.
Lucas also said he didn’t regret what happened the night before. He will have a soft spot for Simone. They lose their way and they find it again usually. Just not tonight. Simone was begging to actually date Wes over just sleeping with him. And all throughout the day, Link has been noticing something was off with Jo.
Jo didn’t want to an OBGYN anymore. She wanted to escape sadness when she ran into that field and now she wants to escape sadness overall. Her spark was growing dimmer the longer she stayed there.
Jules and Winston also had to decide if they wanted people to know about them. In case one of them was in an emergency and was brought to the hospital. They liked the secret part of their relationship. They now just need to be the first call if anything happens to the other.
