Part Two of the Blinds happened on tonight’s all new episode. Queen Latifah arrived in style. She came upon her motorcycle and no one was ever going to beat that arrival. This goes double for the other judges. There’s a reason she was a Queen after all. She missed out yesterday with a contestant. She strove not to miss out on anyone again tonight. Up first was Koumba Diallo. She’s fifteen. She’s from Delano, California. She was a kid and rejection could mean more to her than someone older. And she didn’t let the fear of that stop her from going big.
Koumba chose the song “Stone Cold”. It was a difficult song that she made look easy. She went on to become a four chair turn. The judges all wanted her and they was only one certainty. None of them thought Riley was going to get her. He hasn’t proven to himself to the Pop girlies just yet. He was picking up the Country artists like they were going out of style. The only one fighting him in that field was Kelly because the others knew they weren’t going to win. Koumba ended up being won over by Kelly and joined her team because Kelly has proven she can cross genres.
Ethan Thompson was up next. He was older. He was in thirties. He’s been pursuing music for eleven years. He’s from Whitefish, Montana. He also chose a bold song. He chose “The Bones”. It was a little Pop, a little Country. It showed that he too was willing to cross over. Queen turned for him early on. It was Riley who waited up until the last moment to turn. The two of them then battled it out for Ethan. Queen did a better job tonight. She sang with him. She brought in her backup singers. She put on a concert and she got Ethan.
Whatever she saw in him must have been good. It’s what sold her on the first few notes. It was the veterans that missed out on the chance. Johnnie Kapua was up next. He was another one in his thirties. He was from Herriman, Utah. He’s originally from new Zealand. He was also a dad. He’s been married for eight years and his wife was eight months pregnant with their third child. He was the third act of the night and the third to tackle a tough song. He chose “Die With A Smile” in honor of his family because that’s how they make him feel.
He has a beautiful tone. It didn’t stop him from having areas that needed guidance. Which didn’t matter to either Kelly or Queen. They still turned for him and they wanted him for his team. Kelly knew she couldn’t defeat Queen so she used her First-In button. It was the first time this newest feature has been used this season. It can ensure the first person turn automatically gets someone on their team. The others had discussed using that during a four chair turn. Kelly used it on a two. She really wanted Johnnie and she got him due to the new feature.
The veterans might end up missing the Block button after this season. Next up was Harmony McKee. She was a teenager at nineteen. She was from Medina, Tennessee. It was assumed when she chose a Country song to perform that she was a Country artist. She wasn’t. Tonight was the first time besides singing with her grandpa some Johnny Cash. She was more Folk Rock. It could be heard in her tone this season. Adam turned for her even when he didn’t think he had a chance. He turned and then lost out immediately to Riley who had also turned.
Still, a fight was better than no turns at all. Ethan Shorbert has a great voice. He was born with a condition that had him with a trach at a few months old and has had over twelve surgeries on his throat. He had to relearn how to breathe on his own, how to talk, and how to sing. He chose the song “The Great Divide”. It was unusual choice. It made him all the more bolder. It simply didn’t work in his favor because of nerves. His nerves had left his voice sorta monotone. He didn’t get any turns and neither did the young lady after him. Riley was a kindly gentleman to walk her off.
The poor girl had been a little stunned. She wasn’t sure what to do next and so it was sweet that Riley offered her that comfort. Earlier when he won Harmony, the audience hadn’t clapped for him and now they do. Next up was Lexi Stephens. She was twenty-three. She’s originally from Albany, NY. She now lives in NYC. She easily impressed everyone by choosing “Die On This Hill”. She became the first four chair turn of the night. And everyone called her the most talented voice they’ve heard this season.
Lexi could do anything. Go into any genre. Choose any coach, but it won’t be revealed which coach she chooses until the next episode.
