On tonight’s The Voice recap, Cade Mauer was up first. He’s from Buffdale, Utah. He was on the older side. He was thirty-five and that’s okay because it meant he had experience. He was married. He has kids. He felt a lot of guilt to come out there and audition because he knows he’s needed at home, but this opportunity has been something he’s been chasing since he was twenty-one playing in bars. He performed “Something in the Orange” tonight. He easily got a four chair turn with how fast everyone turned around. They respected the song choice. They loved the gravel in his voice. And the first one out of the gate suddenly had plenty of teams to pick from.
Cade had a bit of a country twang in there as well. It explains both why Riley was the last to turn and why Riley knew how to hit Cade in the feels. He mentioned going on tour with him. It received a lot of groaning from the other coaches. Only it worked with Cade. Riley has been reluctant on filling his team purely with Country artists because he wanted to spread his wings out a bit. He’s seen others take a chance and have it pay off. He wants to do the same even as he couldn’t let an artist as good as Cade go.
The new coaches have a few things to pick up from the veterans. Take Adam. Adam has been picky this season. Bryan Jaymes was up next. He’s from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was also on the older side. He was in his thirties. He performed such a beautiful rendition and what ended up blowing Kelly away was talking voice. His voice was so deep. He dropped several octaves as he was talking so she was kicking herself being the only one not to turn around. The audience could see regret on her face with this one. Bryan deserved to be a four chair turn.
Bryan doesn’t even knew his full range. The coaches could each go so far with him. They could help bring out the winner and, while it was Adam who first turned, it was Team Queen walking away with him. She was so blown away by his talent that she didn’t bother trying to hide it. She wanted to know everything about him and now she gets weeks of getting to know him. Kelly missed out with him and she tried not to do the same with Allie Rae. She was a fifteen year old from Santa Fe, Texas. Allie impressed everyone with her song choice.
Adam has been on the show for a long time. He’s never heard anyone audition with “Black Velvet” before. He said she stood out to him. It’s a shame he didn’t turn for her. He didn’t do it because he had been afraid of losing out to someone else. He wasn’t wrong. The other coaches had turnrd for her. Riley being the first to turn. He was worried about losing as well and that’s why he used his First-In buzzer. He stole Allie for his team. It was completely unfair because he knew Allie was vibing with Kelly. And so Kelly ended up being sore about this one too.
Connor Closs was soon up. He’s in his twenties. He’s from Middletown, New Jersey. It gives small town feel and he loves it there. His dad is a former cop. His mom was a dancer until she developed a neurological condition that affected her movement. Connor was a sweet boy. He helps his mom with her mobility issues. Now, its his mom was pushing him to pursue his dream. Connor auditioned with “Too Sweet”. He has a rocker vibe in him that both Adam and Riley liked. They quickly turned for him. It was meanwhile left to Queen to kick herself because she couldn’t believe she didn’t turn for a New Jersey boy.
Serrin Joy was next up. She’s in her twenties. She’s from Akron, Ohio. She comes from a musical family. Both of her parents were artists in two different fields. Serrin also studied music at university. She has been working for other artists and was ready to stand in the light. She just chose the wrong song. She chose “Be Without You”. The song wasn’t her best fit. It had Queen dancing in her chair and it wasn’t strong enough feeling to convince her to turn around. None of the judges turned so this was it for Serrin’s journey this season.
Though she said she’ll be back. The judges were hoping for the same because they needed to hear more from her. Serrin was followed by Saade. Saade was in her twenties as well. She’s from San Francisco, California. She’s originally from Tehran, Iran. It took a lot for her to get up onstage and show no hesitation yet she did just that. She performed “Oscar Winning Tears”. She showed off some rapping on top of singing. Adam also noted her theatricality. He didn’t turn for her because he said he felt he’d lose. The truth is she would’ve chosen him if he had turned and she said as much.
The other three turned for her. It was merely Adam that hadn’t. Still, Adam helped her choose her coach and that person ended up being Kelly. Kelly was so shocked when she won. She didn’t think she’d get Saade. Next up was a good ole country boy. His name is Everett Bounds. He was another one in his twenties tonight. He’s from Hesperia, California. He was dressed like a cowboy and brought his own guitar. It was just the song choice that had the judges worried there. They took forever to turn when suddenly Riley did so. And won Everett for his team.
Sophia Liano was up next. The ballad queen performed “I Surrender”. She was dressed to the nines. She looked absolutely flawless and yes, the show was about the voice. It just that theme dressing never hurt either. Sophia had two turns for her performance. Both of the newbies. Riley and Queen wanted her for their team. Queen won her because Queen knew what she needed and how to get her there. Sometimes that’s all it takes. Riley was still trying and so you can’t fault him for doing so.
Anna McElroy was soon up. She performed “80s Mercedes”. She impressed most of the coaches. It was just Adam who hadn’t turned for her. Adam was holding onto his spots like molten gold. He missed out on an incredible Country artist. Riley, Queen, and Kelly all turned for her. Queen was no true threat in the game because like Riley hadn’t proved himself with the Pop crowd, Queen hasn’t quite proved herself either with the Country artists. Even Kelly was having a hard time fighting Riley’s dimples and somehow she pulled out a win. She got Anna for her team.
The rejection was beginning to get to Queen though. Like when she turned for Julia Clark. She turned after a single note because she heard something special in her tone. She had proven right about her because the rest of “bellyache” sounded amazing. Julia just never had eyes for her. She locked in when Adam turned and that was it. She later joined his team. Which sucked for Queen who had been the first to notice Julia’s talent. It just hadn’t been enough to use her First-In button. Meaning Queen was still keeping her options open.
Cal Cook was then up. The coach from Salt Lake, Utah instantly joined Team Adam who finally was turning for people. It just took four parts to do so. Brett Tomberlin was next up. The Army vet moved to LA with two hundred bucks to him and he did his best to pursue his dream. He needed to tour a little more because he had some things to work out. Hopefully, he’ll come back next season with a different if not better song. The last contestant of the night was Chari. Chari was in her thirties. She’s from Atlanta, Georgia.
Chari came to the show feeling lonely. She lost both of her parents prior to the age of thirty. It was her mother who got her interested in signing. Her fondest memories of them together singing karaoke. Chari has such a lovely voice that she easily became a four chair turn. And she helped Queen feel back on top by joining her team.
The right one will always come along in the end.
