The Young and the Restless Wednesday, July 22 Recap: Nikki’s Meltdown Over Vision Not Coming Back

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) recap for Wednesday, July 22, reveals that Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) will lash out after her bandages are removed.

Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) will also react to Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) job offer, so here’s what Y&R fans can expect.

At the Newman ranch, Nikki will be cautiously hopeful about her prayers being answered as she brushes her hair and prepares for her doctor’s appointment.

Meanwhile, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will complain to Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) about Phyllis taking Matt up to her suite at the GCAC last night and refusing to open the door.

Nikki’s family will ultimately gather in the waiting room while she heads in for her appointment with Dr. Nowling (Doug Tompos).

After Nikki gets nervous and realizes she wants a loved one there for her bandage removal, Victor will come in for support.

At one point, Dr. Nowling will remind Nikki that the optic nerve is very sensitive and may not be healed, so her vision could still return later if it hasn’t already.

Once Nikki’s bandages come off, she’ll be distraught to find she’s still stuck in total darkness.

Victor, Nick, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) will all try to support Nikki, but she’ll seem eager to be alone.

In Nikki’s bedroom, she’ll cry out and smash a mirror as she has a meltdown over her eyesight not coming back – at least not yet.

In Phyllis’ suite, Matt will wake up on her sofa after pumping the brakes last night.

Since Matt will still be planning on leaving town, he’ll suggest he didn’t want to take advantage of Phyllis.

After Matt asks Phyllis to buy him breakfast, they’ll head to Society and debate whether he can truly have a fresh start in Genoa City.

Matt will admit Phyllis makes him feel like the things she says are possible, so she’ll keep pushing him to believe in a clean slate.

Phyllis will ultimately suggest Matt could come to work for her at Arabesque, but he won’t think he’s qualified.

Once Phyllis argues that Matt’s skills could be adapted to the corporate world, he’ll realize she wants him to come be her fixer instead of Victor’s.

While Matt mulls over Phyllis’ proposition, Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) will get ready for her video call with Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins) at the Abbott mansion.

Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Diane Jenkins Abbott (Susan Walters) will all be in the room with Traci, but she’ll think it’s best if they stay quiet while she’s speaking with Martin.

After Traci connects with Martin on that video call, he’ll be pleased to hear that she received his letters.

Traci will explain the Dr. Laurence Markham (Jere Burns) situation and wonder if Martin can offer any info based on his interactions with Dr. Markham while posing as Dr. Alan Laurent (Christopher Cousins).

Martin will insist Dr. Markham is a narcissistic sociopath and that his books were total drivel.

However, Martin will remember a summer house that Dr. Markham might be hiding out in.

Instead of just giving Traci the location and anything else he might know, Martin will insist on having an in-person meeting with her.

Traci will agree to it and disconnect abruptly, but Diane will suggest they might be able to figure out where that summer home is without Martin’s additional help.

Although part of Traci will want to prove she’s not afraid of Martin, another part of her will be eager to avoid ever sitting across from him or looking him in the eyes again.
