Tonight is the seventh episode of The Vampire Diaries and it is called ‘Ghost World.’ On last week’s episode Bonnie and Matt were still reeling from recent events, while Tyler seems to be enjoying being a hybrid. Stefan continues to carry out his latest assignment from Klaus. If you missed last week’s episode read our official recap here!
Official Synopsis: NIGHT OF ILLUMINATION – As Mystic Falls prepares to celebrate the traditional Illumination Night, the town is invaded by spirits of the dead. After a particularly violent encounter with an angry spirit, Damon asks Bonnie to find the reason behind the ghosts’ surprising power. Elena convinces Jeremy to use his connection to the other side to help her find a new way to reach Stefan, leading Jeremy to a terrible choice. Finally, Alaric discovers a long-hidden clue to the past. Candice Accola and Zach Roerig also star. David Jackson directed the episode written by Rebecca Sonnenshine.
Tonights recap: The show opens with Damon tied to a chair and Mason Lockwood looking at him. Damon says “you have to be kidding me” and his ring protecting him from sunshine is sitting on the carpet in front of him.
Damon sees Stefan and he tells him low blow, but Stefan tells him he did not do it. As Lockwood looks on and when Stefan leaves he opens the curtains and Damon starts to burn.
Matt & Jeremy are at listening to the Mayor talking about the Night of Illumination when the town killed all the vampires. Anna is with Jeremy and they are holding hands but no one can see Anna except Jeremy.
Bonnie it talking to Caroline and Bonnie tells Caroline Jeremy will continue to see Anna as long as he wants.
Damon shows up and tells Bonnie she got her wires crossed because Mason Lockwood came and tied him up and tried to stake him. He tells Bonnie to fix whatever she screwed up and he wants her to fix it FAST.
Elena, Jeremy and Alaric are meeting. Elena wants Jeremy to contact Lexie, Stefan’s old friend. She knows how to calm Stefan down when he goes off the rails. Alaric thinks it is not a good idea to contact the ghosts.
Bonnie is worried and thinks Damon is right and something is going very, very wrong. As she picks up her school bag her Grimoire falls open and is on the manifestation spell page.
Stefan comes and joins Alaric and Elena and takes his diary away from Elena and tells her she should really move on and accept things. He tells Alaric he is excited because there is going to people everywhere to eat.
Bonnie and Caroline go to the place where she brought Jeremy back to life.
Jeremy is wondering how he is able to touch Anna. Anna swears she does not know. Jeremy is concerned the bad witch that helped Vicky is helping Anna, but she denies it. Anna tells Jeremy to send her away if he does not believe her. Jeremy kisses Anna.
At Mystic Café Damon asks Alaric to have a drink with him and tells Alaric to remember when they killed Mason Lockwood.
Bonnie is chanting the Manifestation spell. Caroline is frightened as Bonnie keeps chanting and the leaves swirl around. All of a sudden Miss Shelia appears.
After the spell Lexie appears and Mason Lockwood smashes a glass on Damon’s forehead.
Stefan tells Lexie she is dead. Lexie tells him he is off the rails big time. He tells her to leave him alone, that he does not want her help. She takes his head and smashes it into a car window.
Bonnie is crying and tells Miss Sheila they don’t have time. The witches told Bonnie there would be consequences, and now she cracked open the door on the other side. There is a free pass for anyone with unfinished business. Bonnie upset the balance of nature and she has to fix it. She has to close the door she has opened to the other world.
Caroline calls Elena and tells her she has the old witches talisman and they have to destroy it. Elena does not have the talisman, Damon does and she tells Caroline to text him.
Lexie comes to get Elena and Lexie tells her to come to see the detox for vampires.
Damon, Mason and Alaric are at the bar and Mason tells Damon he wants an apology. Mason tells Damon he is there to help Tyler. Mason tells Damon if he apologizes he will tell him how to kill Klaus. Tyler offers a minimal apology and Mason accepts. Mason tells him to meet him at the old Lockwood basement and bring a shovel and come alone.
Lexie takes Elena to a cell where she has Stefan locked up, she warns Elena it won’t be pretty. Stefan wakes up and is not happy. Stefan asks Elena to get rid of Lexie. Lexie tells Stefan she is saving his life as she draws all the force of the human blood out of him.
Damon shows up and Mason is surprised that he is there. Mason is smacking a shovel on the wall and tells Damon behind the wall is the one thing that can kill an original vampire. He tries to get Damon to crawl in the hole they make but Damon tells Mason to go first because he is afraid it is a trap.
Stefan is suffering, Lexie is making Stefan feel like he has had no human blood in two years – it is an accelerated detox.
Caroline calls and she cannot find the talisman and Elena asks them to hold off on closing the door and putting the ghosts back. Caroline tells Bonnie that Jeremy kissed Anna. Bonnie is very upset.
Over at the Festival of Illumination Jeremy is looking for Anna. Frederic has showed up and he sees Anna and Jeremy he has unfinished business with the Founding Fathers. Alaric is about to start the lighting ceremony and there is a scream. The camera pans over to a tree where someone dead is tied to it. The camera goes to Frederic who is smiling.
Stefan begs Elena to make it stop. Lexie tells Elena not to listen to him as Stefan begs and tells her how much he loves her. Lexie tells her they have to make him week until he is ready to be saved. Elena cannot watch it anymore and she leaves.
As she gets out of the cell she hears sirens and sees all the police cars.
Meanwhile Caroline is still searching for the talisman. The phone rings and it is Jeremy and he wants to know if she found the talisman. Caroline suspects Anna may have taken the necklace/talisman. Jeremy believes Anna that she did not take it and Caroline calls him an idiot. Anna disappears, and Elena shows up and asks Jeremy what happened?
Damon tells Mason he is waiting for the other shoe to drop. He tells Damon to keep walking and all of a sudden swords come out of the wall and stab Damon – not good!
Elena asks Jeremy where the necklace/talisman is. Elena tells Jeremy Anna was the only one who knew where the necklace was and they have to get it from her and destroy it. Jeremy tells Elena that he loves Anna and Elena tells him it is not real. What he is feeling is in the past, it is not real. Anna appears and Elena tells her that Jeremy is at the beginning of his life and she is holding him back. Anna puts out her hand and she has the necklace. Elena tells Jeremy to call Bonnie and tell her he has the necklace and tell Bonnie to send the ghosts away.
Alaric shows up at the Lockwood cave and he asks Alaric to go in because as a vampire he cannot. Damon tells Alaric to get over that he is mad at him. Damon tells Alaric sometime he does things he should not do.
Stefan is still tied up and he asks Elena what she is going to do. He asks her if she is going to stand there and watch him dry up. She tells him she is going home to take care of Bonnie and Jeremy. Stefan tells her he knew she would give up and she tells him she is not giving up she has hope. She looks at him and tells him he can break through it, he can feel something again. She tells him if he can’t he will lose her forever. She leaves and locks Stefan in.
Bonnie is crying at the Witch house and Jeremy wants to explain. Bonnie tells him that Matt gave up his sister before Jeremy gave up Anna and she tells him to leave. He leaves and the fire in the fireplace comes on and the talisman/necklace is back.
Damon and Alaric are in the cave and Alaric has gone further because Damon cannot. Damon asks if he found anything and Alaric says ‘He found something’ The camera pans in to the cave wall and there are Viking names carved into the wall of the original families.
Alaric shows up at the Lockwood cave and he asks Alaric to go in because as a vampire he cannot. Damon tells Alaric to get over that he is mad at him. Alaric says he was Damon’s friend. Damon tells Alaric sometime he does things he should not do – seems to be Damon’s new apology!
Stefan is still tied up and he asks Elena what she is going to do. He asks her if she is going to stand there and watch him dry up. She tells him she is going home to take care of Bonnie and Jeremy. Stefan tells her he knew she would give up and she tells him she is not giving up – she has hope. She looks at him and tells him he can break through it, he needs to feel something again. She tells him if he can’t he will lose her forever. She will not date a ghost indefinitely. She leaves and locks Stefan in in the detox cellar.
Bonnie is crying at the Witch house and Jeremy wants to explain. Bonnie is really pissed! Bonnie tells him that Matt gave up his sister before Jeremy gave up Anna and she tells him to leave. He leaves and the fire in the fireplace comes on and the talisman/necklace is back!
Damon and Alaric are in the cave and Alaric has gone further because Damon cannot. Damon asks if he found anything and Alaric says ‘He found something’ The camera pans in to the cave wall and there are Viking codes and symbols carved into the wall – names of the original families!!!
