Tis the Season for Song! Michael Buble Tops BILLBOARD'S Holiday Chart

It’s pretty much impossible to go anywhere right now without being bombarded by holiday music.  In taxi’s, elevators, shopping centers and office buildings – you name it and they’re playing some sort of holiday tune.

While trying to finish my holiday shopping in Soho the other day, I went from CB2 to Uniglo to American Apparel and each time I stepped foot in the store Paul McCartney’s cringe-worthy Wonderful Christmas Time started.  I was certain I was being punked… even writing this, I have the dreadful chorus stuck in my head!

But it’s only once a year, so it’s best to embrace the classics and new holiday tunes alike.   Sure there’s Bing Crosby’s, White Christmas to warm the heart strings but what about the new stuff?   The who’s who of the music industry all seem to be celebrating the season with a new holiday album.

At the top of Billboard’s Holiday Chart is Canadian crooner, Michael Bublé’s aptly titled, Christmas beating out none other than Mr. Bieber Fever himself at number 2 with Under the Mistle toe.  The Biebs collaborated with Boys II Men, Usher, Busta Rymes, The Band Perry and Mariah on his festive release.  I admit to having mixed feelings about Justin and Mariah’s take on her classic “All I Want for Christmas.”  I mean, the original is just so good (and has been known to come out at many a house party all year round) do you really want to mess with that?

Rounding out the top 10 list are new holiday offerings from Glee (The Music, The Christmas Album II); 11 year-old music sensation, Jackie Evancho (Heavenly Christmas); Hollywood it girl, Zooey Deschanel’s band She & Him (A Very She and Him Christmas); Susan Boyle (The Gift); Josh Groban (Noel); Andrea Bocelli (My Christmas); Gaga (A Very Gaga Holiday, EP); and Chris Tomlin (Glory in the Highest).

Even bands like the Killers are getting into the spirit with their latest effort on behalf of Bono’s RED campaign, The Cowboy Christmas Ball. Their six song (RED) Christmas EP is available on itunes now.

Whatever your tune, dancing to the beat of your own drum is always encouraged at the holidays!
