Tonight on NBC their new show RUNNING WITH BEAR GRYLLS airs with an all new episode. On tonight’s episode called, “Deion Sanders” in the first-season finale, Deion Sanders goes camping for the first time when he accompanies Bear to Utah.
On the last episode world-renowned survivalist Bear Grylls (“Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls,” “Man vs. Wild”) spent two days in the remote Utah desert with Tamron Hall (“The Today show”) getting to know the depths of her personal tragedies and triumphs of her life, while challenging her along the way. Hall made small talk with an unlikely friend in the wild and later struggled when she found him on her dinner plate. Did you watch the last episode? On tonight’s episode world-renowned survivalist Bear Grylls (“Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls,” “Man vs. Wild”) takes NFL hall of famer Deion Sanders to the mesas and canyons of Utah for his first ever camping trip. Even though Sanders is a fish out of water, he takes a huge leap of faith and accepts Bear’s challenges.

RECAP: Tonight Bear is going into the Utah desert with Deion Sanders, football super star and he decided to do this because his kids wanted him to challenge himself since they think he’s becoming soft; Bear chose a harsh terrain to truly push him to his limits. Deion sees Bear fly in on a helicopter and they greet each other; he leads him to the helicopter and thetwo stand on the outside. Bear and Deion finally reach their starting point and hop off the helicopter; Deion says he’s been in one before but that was terrifying standing on the outside.
Bear gives Deion a knife and a water canteen; Deion is afraid of snakes and really hopes to not run into one. They are slowly moving through the canyons and Deion mentions he has never been out in the wild like this, his mom had a great work ethic and really set him straight. Bear and Deion keep going through and land in full of water; they are now going to have to use their body weight against two side and put themselves down to the ground.
Deion is told snakes live in the water he’s walking in and he rushes out so fast, Bear finds a snake on the ground and goes to pick it up; Deion is scared and doesn’t want it for dinner. Deion is very scared and isn’t comfortable with helping Bear, he goes and gets the knife and throws it to Bear; Bear goes ahead and cut its head of completely. Bear walks it over to Deion and he starts running; he’s incredibly scared.
Deion says he was always playing sports and wouldn’t get into the bad things other people were doing; like selling drugs and all that horrible stuff. His mother was a janitor and he would lie that she was other things; he was just so upset at himself for being ashamed of her. He made sure he’d make all the money she needs to retire and made sure she never work another day of her life.
Bear ties his rope around a strong tree, the two will rappell down together; Bear goes down first really fast.Now it’s Deion’s turn and he’s a little nervous about it. Deion takes his time going down but makes it to the bottom and Deion can’t believe he’s done that; but now they got a second cliff to go down.
Bear goes down first again and drops right into the water at the bottom, Deion is now going down and he’s taking his time again; he reaches the bottom and hits the water.
Bear and Deoin now find a place to camp for the night; they are make a fire and start cooking a snake. Bear takes a bite and says they have tons of bones, Deion is not a big fan of eating snakes; Bear gives him one of his favorite chocolate bars and he’s happy. Deion says that he’s very different then his persona, he says he was acting; when he won his first superbowl he didn’t go to the after party or anything. It wasn’t as big a deal to him, he had money and sex; though he felt like it just wasn’t as meaningful to him. When he lost custody of his kids he got upset and depressed; he even had suicidal thoughts. He felt empty with all his success, he wants custody of his kids and he’s happy because he tries hard to be the best father in the world; he works so hard for them and to make them happy.
Dein was scared to death sleeping, he just couldn’t do it and just stayed up the whole night. The two are going through some scary heights, they are climbing a big mesa; the two started climbing the mountain and Deion is really nervous. Deion is terrified moving on to the side of the cliff, Bear tells him that there are many things they have to do that they are not comfortable with; Bear tells Deion he will keep him safe. Deion believes Bear is taking it to far, he’s just really scared to do this, Deion knows he has to prepare himself to do it; he’s just very uncomfortable with it. He prays and starts going up with Bear; slowly but surely the two are climbing together. Deion liked going up so much better, he felt far more comfortable with it than going down by rappell.
Bear and Deion are now going to the next part of their journey, they have to do a leap of faith; Bear leaps on over and Deion is scared all over again. Deion sits there and says his prayers, Bear tells him this is the end and it’s time Deion shows his bravery and wants him to control his fear and over come it. Deion leaps over and he starts climibing up with Bear, he can’t believe he did that even though he was so scared; Deion and Bear are now climbing right to the top. Deion is proud of himself and knows his fears now; he really wants to work on them. Bear loves going into the wild with others and seeing them conquer their fears, he knows that everyone is capable of it; Deion feels he learned new things about himself.
