Steve Harvey Miss Universe Winner Blunder: Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Rather Than Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach

The wildly tawdry Miss Universe pageant went downhill fast when host Steve Harvey declared the wrong contestant as the winner – Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez rather than Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. A faux-pas of epic proportions on an international scale – if I were Steve I’d be drinking away my sorrows at the Nowhere Bar on the corner of Cringe Road and Crap My Pants Avenue.

Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, burst into hysterics when her name was announced as the winner of Miss Universe 2015. She waved and sobbed like a depressed Elvis impersonator for a total of five awkward minutes.

A horrified Steve Harvey made his way back to the stage, wearing new underpants of course, and rectified his “horrible mistake”. Miss Colombia was actually the first runner-up; the real winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

“What’s the big deal? Steve made a mistake,” said no-one ever. A mistake is when you order Coke instead of Sprite. A mistake is when you watch Battlefield Earth.

This wasn’t merely a “mistake” – this was the biggest live television disaster since Australia’s Next Top Model (Google it!).

In true disaster fashion, Steve took to Twitter and apologised like Barry Manilow at a rhinoplasty convention. We do feel a slight stab of sympathy for poor Steve, because, you know, embarrassment stays with you until the day you die.

Hopefully Steve doesn’t suffer from Highlander syndrome – I’d chop off my own head if I had to endure immortality with this mistake on my conscience.

What do you think? Should Steve Harvey be blamed for the riots that are sure to occur in Colombia soon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
