Penny Dreadful Season 4 Cancelled: Showrunner John Logan Confirms Season 3 Finale Series Last Episode

Penny Dreadful Season 4 Cancelled: Showrunner John Logan Confirms Season 3 Finale Series Last EpisodePenny Dreadful spoilers tease that she Showtime drama is officially cancelled, and the Penny Dreadful Season 3 finale that aired this week is the series finale. Fans of the spooky Victorian drama were shocked when the show’s creator John Logan confirmed that there would not be a Penny Dreadful Season 4 and the Showtime series is over.

The Season 3 Penny Dreadful finale was an emotional one, and seemed very final.  The episode closed with the death of Vanessa Ives, and her funeral.  Unlike previous episodes, the Season 3 finale closed with the words “The End” emblazed on the screen, which indicated to Penny Dreadful fans that something was a bit off.

According to showrunner John Logan, he didn’t announce the end of Penny Dreadful before the Season 3 finale aired on Showtime because he wanted to “surprise” the fans.  What a horrible surprise!

Logan dished to Deadline, “That’s what the ending of this series is, it is meant to be a strong, bold, theatrical ending because I think that’s what our fans like and to water that down with an announcement or having them know I think would be an act of bad faith.”

Already there are rumors floating around about a potential Penny Dreadful spinoff or prequel headed to Showtime.  But, at this point it looks like they are nothing more than just rumors, and we have seen the end of the series.  Logan made it pretty clear that he had no intention of revisiting the Penny Dreadful world for another show, and said that it would seem “inorganic” after such a powerful series finale.
