In another unprecedented move for a Royal, Prince William has issued a statement regarding Prince Harry’s romantic relationship with Meghan Markle. The Duke of Cambridge has never publicly commented on Prince Harry’s love life.
Kensington Palace issued a statement on Saturday, November 26 which reads, “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”
Without naming Meghan Markle specifically, one can guess from the wording of the statement that Prince William was referring to Prince Harry’s girlfriend. Especially note the phrase “support those closest to him.”
A source close to the Royal’s told The Telegraph that Prince Harry would never have made a public statement regarding his new relationship without first speaking with Prince William. “[William and Harry] talked about the Meghan Markle statement extensively in advance of it being put out.”
Harry acknowledged his relationship with Meghan on November 8, revealing that the couple had been dating for a few months. Days later Meghan Markle was spotted walking down the street toting grocery bags from Whole Foods to Kensington Palace where it was believed the actress was visiting Prince Harry.
While staying with Prince Harry at Nottingham Cottage it believed that Meghan met both Kate Middleton and Prince William. It is unknown whether Harry has yet introduced Meghan Markle to Queen Elizabeth but that date is certainly on the way if it hasn’t happened already.
For Prince William to issue a statement such as this, Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle must be extremely serious. Royal watchers hope that there will be a formal announcement of an engagement and wedding soon. Currently Meghan is on location shooting the seventh season of the USA legal drama ‘Suits.’ Prince Harry returns from his tour of the Caribbean which ends on December 4 with a visit to Guyana.
Is the statement issued by Kensington Palace an acknowledgement from Prince William and Kate Middleton that the Cambridge’s approve of Meghan Markle? In fact would Prince William dare support Meghan Markle if Queen Elizabeth did not approve? Past reports have stated that Harry considers Kate to be one closest friends and often seeks the Duchess of Cambridge’s advice.
Prince Harry seems much more decisive than Prince William and it appears he has decided to make Meghan his bride. Kate Middleton waited 10 years for Prince William to propose marriage.
