Kate Middleton is being called the United Kingdom’s most promising diplomat by some people, leaving Prince William frustrated in his wife’s shadow. In fact, a lot of royal fans believe that the Duchess of Cambridge might have more diplomatic power than her husband, mostly because many people are more excited to welcome her than William during the couple’s official state visits these days.
Kate Middleton hasn’t made many comments about her role as Britain’s unofficial Brexit ambassador, but it’s not like she needs to say anything to begin with. All Kate needs to do is to walk in a room for everyone to stop and stare in her direction.
Kate Middleton is one of the most popular members of the British royal family right now. She makes more headlines than Queen Elizabeth and definitely commands more attention than her husband Prince William. Compared to the rest of the British monarchy, she’s got a natural charm that comes very easy for her.
Prince William makes the same state trips as Kate, all eyes are usually on the Duchess. William made a solo trip to Belgium last week and the media barely said anything about it. Simply put, he’s not the heartthrob or the royal celebrity that he used to be. If that weren’t enough, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles also visited Austria, but no one seemed to care about their trip, either.
But when Kate Middleton is at one of her royal engagements or public appearances, she makes the front page of almost every major publication from all over the world. When Kate is in the spotlight, everyone pays attention. That’s why a lot of people believe that she holds more diplomatic power than her husband.
It’s also no wonder why the British government is using both Prince William and Kate Middleton as their Brexit ambassadors. William clearly couldn’t do the job on his own. He needs Kate to be by his side, even if she doesn’t say anything. Her presence and popularity alone is enough for people to stop and listen.
No one knows how long Prince William and Kate Middleton’s ‘charm offensive’ will work until it wears out. Kate can only smile and wave to the public for so many times before it gets old and repetitive.
