A “quiet war” is brewing between Kate and Pippa Middleton as Kate is upset that Pippa is not taking the responsibility of her royal connections seriously enough. Pippa’s recent headline causing antics have created tension between the once close sisters and Kate is beginning to distance herself from her “middle class” family member to keep her new blue-blooded relatives happy.
“The one thing the royals don’t want is over-the-top behavior,” a source told Now magazine. “They know the world’s obsessed with Pippa’s bottom and any madcap move or embrace with Prince Harry could be blown out of proportion. Headlines about Pippa’s posterior would not go down well with senior royals and Kate’s very anxious that she doesn’t let her down again.”
Pippa’s recent blunders include the gun show she gave the French paparazzi and her obvious determination to marry moneyed aristocracy like Kate. I heard the British upper classes say Pippa’s been passed around more times than a blunt at a Bob Marley concert. That’s a bit… rough… and telling, and I’m sure Kate doesn’t want those kinds of whispers heard about her family members while she’s still trying to gain her footing in the snooty upper echelon of British society. Princess or no princess, her mother was still a flight attendant and those Brits don’t forget choice information like that so quickly.
But apparently there’s also some jealousy at play. Vivacious Pippa’s annoyed that her big sis gets to hog all the spotlight and wear the newest fashions before everyone else. “There’s definitely a rivalry,” revealed the magazine. “Pippa’s always been the dominant one and is struggling to let go of that, despite Kate’s new position. She believes she should be able to do what she wants, but Kate feels she doesn’t understand how important her new role is. She’s adamant Pippa needs to be kept in check.”
It’s gotten so bad the girls are only meeting up once every couple weeks now when they used to go out every couple days and the girls’ mother, Carole Middleton, is worried they might never repair their rift.
This is a tough one! On the one hand, Kate needs to stop being such a control freak and let her little sister live her life and make her mistakes. Just because Kate chose to live in a glass box doesn’t mean her family has to. But then if Pippa’s going to capitalize on her sister’s new power, she should keep the guns and home and stop getting pictured with a new dude every weekend. Sister rivalry is tough under the best circumstances and these are definitely the worst. Luckily my sisters and I are so different in age and life paths we never had to deal with this but Pippa and Kate are practically the same age and have the same friends and wear the same clothes. It would be hard for Pippa to carve out an identity for herself even if her sister wasn’t the most popular woman in the world. Both sides just have to take a deep breath and try to be more empathetic towards each other. Kate needs Pippa probably more than Pippa needs Kate right now. She’s wading through royal demands somewhat seamlessly and hasn’t slipped up yet, but she will one day. That’s certain. She has no idea what it means to have the Windsors disappointed in her and I’m guessing when that cold, hard day comes, it will be comforting to have her sister at her side.
