The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that J.T.’s (Thad Luckinbill) marital boot by Mackenzie (Clementine Ford) is likely rooted in an issue that is about to be revealed. An unexpected use of prescription pills appears to indicate a larger problem is in play for Vickie’s (Amelia Heinle) revived love interest.
It seemed odd that J.T. and Mack would move their family from Washington D.C. to Poland and then he’d soon thereafter take a job in Genoa City. Thoughts of J.T. wanting to escape his second family for some specific reason seemed on target when Luckinbill’s character referenced recent mistakes he regretted having made.
Mack is caring for the two young children she and J.T. created. Wanting to divorce the father of those babies must have been spurned by something significant. To his credit, J.T. hasn’t bad-mouthed his wife to-date. It’s reasonable to believe that character could be written back into the show at some point if J.T. sticks around.
J.T. was working in Poland. So he may have injured himself while on that job. Could this be the reason why he quickly accepted an offer from Cane (Daniel Goddard) to join Chancellor Industries in an executive staff position that appears to be outside of J.T.’s professional field?
Reed (Tristan Lake Leabu) was clearly on J.T.’s mind when he decided to return to Genoa City last month. Mr. Hellstrom’s review of Newman Enterprises’ books concluded, with him offering Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) generous cover. That orchestrated outcome also played to Vickie’s sympathies.
JTV reformed far quicker than was expected, which seemed to be connected to Luckinbill’s potentially limited return run at Y&R. Whether the well-liked actor, in a role the audience favors, remains with the cast long-term is yet to be known. However, the introduction of J.T.’s use of prescription drugs does tease various potential storylines.
He could simply be facing some lingering injury. That storyline wouldn’t be overly dramatic unless he begins to abuse his medication, or mixes it with alcohol as he does on Monday’s new Y&R episode, January 22, and that leads to some type of charged outcome and addiction
Possibly, J.T. is facing some type of illness instead. He may be using medicine in response to a serious condition that has been diagnosed and is, or will become life-threatening.
In any instance, Vickie’s life prime for upending. Her impulsive decision to give J.T. a key to her home, as part of a mutually agreed upon recoupling effort, also sets up the next chapter in Luckinbill’s arc.
