Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Monday, August 31, reveal that Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston) got updates via phone from Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) on her search for Ciara Weston (Victoria Konefal), leaving him upset.
Meanwhile in the foyer, Will Horton (Chandler Massey) and Sonny Kiriakis (Freddie Smith) prepared to tell Victor that they’re leaving for Arizona. Will decided to take off and tell his grandmas the news while Sonny stayed to tell Victor.
Off-screen, Sonny explained to Victor about going to Arizona, and Victor grumped about missing Will, Sonny, and Ari Horton (Sydney Brower). Victor told Sonny that he was just like his mother, and that this was a big compliment, which touched Sonny.
Ultimately, Victor thought it was good that Sonny was going to be with his brothers, and the two men hugged in a touching moment. Victor then said that he had something that Sonny should take with him.
Upstairs, Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) showed Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) Titan’s 4th quarter numbers, which were great under his leadership. Xander and Sarah enjoyed the morning together and made love, then they talked about Philip Kiriakis (Jay Kenneth Johnson) being back in town.
Xander thought that Philip was wrong to leave all those years ago, and Sarah thought that perhaps there’s a reason why everyone keeps leaving Victor.
At Julie’s Place, Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) caught up with Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) on recent goings-on in Salem.
Bonnie Lockhart (Judi Evans) approached their table, much to Lucas’ chagrin, but Bonnie said that she was there to see Justin and that he was representing her as a lawyer. Lucas said that he’d pray for Justin and he took off.
Bonnie sat down and Justin revealed that Bonnie’s publisher made her a settlement offer. Bonnie was thrilled, but Justin thought they could get much more out of the publisher.
Bonnie was appreciative, and she had her hands on Justin’s hands when Sonny walked in wearing Justin’s cowboy hat, apparently given to him by Victor as a going-away present. Bonnie got peeved and ultimately left. Sonny stuck around, wanting answers about why Justin was getting close to Bonnie.
Justin explained that he was representing Bonnie, but Sonny still thought it was insane. Sonny revealed that he and Will were headed to Arizona asap, which Justin thought was abrupt.
Ultimately, Justin and Sonny dropped the subject of Bonnie, and they had a nice goodbye. After Sonny left, Bonnie came back to the table with drinks, and she comforted Justin about Sonny leaving.
In town square, Kate DiMera (Lauren Koslow) was surprised when Philip greeted her. Philip had to admit that he’s been in town for two days, which irked Kate. Mother and son talked, and Philip revealed his plan to be CEO of Titan again, but he didn’t give Kate many details because he didn’t want her to interfere.
Philip said that Titan was his birthright and that he was here to claim it. Pretty soon, Lucas wandered onto the scene, and he and Philip were reunited. Philip took off shortly thereafter.
At the hospital, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) sat with an unconscious John Black (Drake Hogestyn) while she talked via phone with Belle Black (Martha Madison).
Marlena lamented to Belle that it felt like the whole family was falling apart. Soon, Will showed up and comforted Marlena, quickly learning that the doctors were keeping John unconscious until the brain swelling receded.
Marlena soon realized that Will had news, and off-screen he told her about leaving for Arizona. Marlena was upset, but she insisted that Will needed to go with Sonny and not stay behind just for her.
After an emotional goodbye, Will left. Later, Sarah came to tell Marlena that John’s swelling hadn’t gone down as much as they hoped, so they weren’t going to wake him today.
Sarah took off, and Marlena told John that she had really wanted to hear his voice today. “I’m feeling pretty alone,” Marlena said, just as Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) walked in the room behind her. Brady put his hand on Marlena’s shoulder and told her that she was not alone. Marlena turned and smiled.
Back in town square, Will approached Kate and Lucas, and told them that he needed to say goodbye. After telling them the story of moving to Arizona, Sonny arrived, and the quad shared goodbyes all around. Will and Sonny walked off together.
Back at the Kiriakis mansion, Xander approached Victor with the 4th quarter numbers, but Victor said he’d already seen them. “There’s something I need to tell you,” Victor said.
Xander immediately got defensive, and Victor said that Philip was here in Salem to take over Titan. Xander got peeved and ranted about Philip being gone for five years and returning wanting all these things.
Victor told Xander to shut up, and that he hadn’t given Philip the job yet. “I want an answer – who are you going to choose? Me?” Xander said. “Or me?” Philip said, walking in the door.
