John Dorie is writing a letter to June, he tells her that he has been thinking a lot about his dad lately, maybe it’s being away from her that his thoughts are drifting to family. John looks different, he is smiling, yet he doesn’t look happy. He continues with his letter, saying even though his father wasn’t always around, he was still a part of him. He leaves the house and walks to his post, he is one of Virginia’s rangers now. He tells June that life there is not as he imagined. People give up some freedom to live behind the walls, but he thinks maybe it is worth it. Cameron doesn’t show up to replace John at the post, he goes to look for him and finds him turned and stuck in barbed wire outside his home.

We see Morgan, he enters a shed of some sort, he finds a box with a note in it, “found this in the vehicle they took her in at the Gulch. Good luck. D.S.” He takes out a jacket and brings it with him in his truck, he has Emile’s hound dog, Rufus there and has him sniff the jacket.

John wants to look into Cameron’s death, Virginia tells him it is just an accident, sometimes he drinks too much. John looks around on the ground with a flashlight and finds an earring in the dirt. Strand drives up, John tells him his suspicions about Cameron’s death.

John talks to Janis about Cameron, the two were close. She says she did his laundry. John tells her his suspicions about Cameron’s death and shows her the earing, she says she has never seen it before. He tells her to be careful until he figures things out.

John goes to see Virginia, he shows her the earing and says that he doesn’t think Cameron stumbled on to that barbed wire. She tells him to just keep his investigation quiet.

Rabbi Jacob Kessner speaks at Cameron’s funeral. Janis is caught trying to sneak off through the fence, but she is caught and put in handcuffs. Virginia checks her back and produces the matching earing that John found in the dirt near Cameron. Janis is locked up, John goes to see her. He asks her why she didn’t tell the truth about knowing Cameron. Then he shows her a sketch of a woman lying in Cameron’s bed, he found it under his mattress and asks if it is her. Janis says no, Virginia has it in for her and she thinks she planted the earing in her bag. She admits to John that she was having an affair with Cameron, they kept it secret so they weren’t split up.

John promises Janis that he is going to set this thing straight. John returns to see Virginia, he tells her that Janis says they are not her earrings. She tells him that she has read all the letters between him and June, and she is thrilled that he seems happy. John is visibly upset, he leaves. Dakota is outside, she approaches John. She tells him not to listen to Ginny, she is protecting someone and he should keep on looking. Ginny comes outside and stops the conversation.

John can’t sleep, he heads to Cameron’s grave a digs it up. Inside, he finds that Cameron had his throat slit. A walker falls into the grave, John has to fight it off. He then finds a fragment of the weapon that killed Cameron, stuck in his hand. He gets Strand and tells him that Cameron’s throat was slit and he shows him the fragment he found. Strand lets John into the weapon armory to see who checked out the weapon, a page is torn out of the book. Strand tells John to think long and hard about what he is doing because if he goes down this path, there is no turning back.

John goes back to see Janis, Strand, and Virginia show up. Janis says she knows she said she was innocent, but she did it, she killed Cameron. Janice says they had a fight and it got out of control, she pushed him into the barbed wire fence and watched the walkers tear him apart. Ginny thanks her finally unburdening herself. Ginny tells John that she will leave him alone with Janis so they can say their goodbyes. John asks her why she says there is nothing left for her. She tells him where a key is to a motorbike, tells him to escape and go get June.

It is late, John is drinking when Kessner stops by for a visit and tells John that Janis is going to be executed at daybreak. John tells him that Janis said to find June and get the heck out of there, but he is going to get Janis out. Kessner offers to speak to Ginny and buy more time, John says there is no more time. John gives him a letter for June, they hug.

John is packing his things, he blows out the candles and heads to the cell, Janis is gone. Outside he sees a boombox to a tree, he finds Janis tied to a tree, she has turned. He puts her out of her misery by shooting her, then he shoots the boombox. He goes on to bury Janis and lay her near Cameron.

John returns to town, Kessner and Strand come out a door, they were together. Strand admits that he told Ginny that Janis was a flight risk. John hits Strand and the two get into a fistfight. Strand tells John that he saved him from going down with Janis. John shouts that Janis was right, the place destroys everything.

Ginny calls a town hall and tells them Cameron’s murder was a test for all of them. She says it thanks to John, he just stands beside her and keeps his mouth shut. She gives him a key to the city and congratulates and tells him this new honor will allow him many privileges.

John is in bed, staring at the ceiling, he can’t sleep, there is a knock at the door. It’s June, she has been transferred there with him. Later we see John take pliers and pull a rotten tooth that has been bothering him.

The episode ends with Morgan, he is in the pickup truck with Rufus and tells him that they are almost there. Rufus goes down on to the floor. All of a sudden, Morgan is sideswiped by another vehicle. Morgan gets out of the truck, weapon in hand, and leaves Rufus in the truck. One man exits the driver’s side and asks where Emile is, they just want the key. Morgan tells them to stay back, he doesn’t want to hurt anybody. Within seconds Morgan is attacked and he kills the two men. Morgan looks down at the key around his neck and says, what the hell do you unlock.

THE END!
