General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that one ABC soap star is speaking out about his new role and who helped him prepare. GH fans are still getting to know Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor), but his portrayer has been impressing many viewers. Wactor handsome, a solid actor and poised to become a great addition to the canvas.
In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Wactor opened up about landing the role of Brando and what the experience has been like. It turns out Wactor had auditioned for GH a few times before. He also auditioned at The Young and the Restless before ultimately scoring the part of Brando in Port Charles.
Speaking of The Young and the Restless, Wactor has an interesting connection to one of Y&R’s leading men. He’s good friends with Mark Grossman, who plays Adam Newman in Genoa City. Wactor relied on Grossman to get ready for his General Hospital debut – although Grossman didn’t know what he was up to!
Since GH wanted to keep a tight lid on Brando’s return from the “dead,” Wactor couldn’t divulge the truth to Grossman. He just grilled Grossman on the sly and hoped he could score enough tips.
“I had to be kind of vague and not even tell him that I booked something, [so my questions were like], ‘What’s been shocking you?’ What have you been feeling like you wish you had known before you got on set?’” Wactor said.
Grossman ended up giving Wactor some valuable advice about the importance of being prepared. That’s definitely crucial due to the rapid shooting schedule and crazy number of soap episodes per year. They have to be ready to bring it when the cameras start rolling.
Wactor confessed that he was once a bit resistant about daytime television, but he’s loving the idea now. He enjoys working with the cast and crew as well as what a thrill this type of shooting brings. “Once I got on set, it’s really the closest thing to theater that I’ve done in front of a camera,” Wactor said. “It’s been a really thrilling experience.”
Wactor also had tons of praise for his costars, Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos) and Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). GH fans will see a lot of these three in the weeks ahead, so it’ll be fun to see what GH writers have in mind.
