Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers recap for Friday, September 24, reveals that Ben Weston (Robert Scott Wilson) worried about his bad genes – and Ciara Brady Weston (Victoria Konefal) feared that meant no “Cin” babies ever! Abe Carver (James Reynolds) also planned a secret marriage proposal, so here’s how all the DOOL drama played out.
At the DiMera mansion, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) admitted he was afraid Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) might ghost him tonight because of Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold). Chanel insisted that Allie was fine with them being together – and even if she didn’t mean it, Chanel could make decisions for herself.
Johnny settled in with Chanel on the sofa to watch The Exorcist, but Chanel got creeped out and told him to turn it off. She then decided Johnny shouldn’t make his own movie and warned him not to. After Johnny suggested it was just pretend, Chanel wondered if it was pretend when Johnny’s grandmother got possessed – because John Black (Drake Hogestyn) said it really happened.
Johnny thought it would work in his favor and help him sell his movie if the story was real. He wanted to get back to watching their current flick, so Chanel said Johnny would have to pay for her therapy bills.
Chanel got creeped out again during the exorcism scene and squeezed Johnny’s hand so hard that it hurt. Johnny at least wanted Chanel to see the end of the film and offered to fast forward. Chanel reluctantly agreed – though she seductively insisted that Johnny owed her big time.
When the movie was over, Johnny confessed that he was going to rewrite the Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney) story script. He wanted to make Marlena’s possession the sole focus.
At the pub on Friday’s Days episode, Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) talked to Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) about Doug Williams’ (Bill Hayes) mysterious collapse. Kayla was perplexed since Doug’s readouts were inconclusive and expressed concern for Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes).
After Abe showed up with Paulina Price (Jackée Harry), he introduced her to Kayla and Steve. They convinced Paulina and Abe to join them for dinner, which led to a conversation about John ruminating about Marlena’s possession lately.
Paulina choked on her food and was stunned when Abe admitted the story was true. After Paulina went to the restroom, Abe filled Steve and Kayla in on a big secret. He revealed that he was going to propose to Paulina tomorrow night and had it all planned out. Abe just had to get Chanel’s blessing before he popped the question.
Kayla and Steve were thrilled for Abe, but Paulina wondered what they were all talking about when she returned. Steve and Kayla acted like they were just happy that Abe and Paulina found each other, so Paulina seemed satisfied with that answer. She mentioned not wanting devil’s food cake for dessert and thought stuff like Marlena’s possession only happened in the movies.
At the hospital, Julie told Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) about Doug being given sedatives so he could rest. She explained how she found Doug on the floor while Marlena just stood there in shock. Julie admitted that Marlena wasn’t acting like herself – and later, Doug was agitated once he stirred awake. He definitely wasn’t happy about Julie dashing off to summon Marlena.
At the townhouse, possessed Marlena picked up John’s priest collar and then dropped it in a hurry. She also admired the old newspaper clipping about Marlena’s possession and felt they had made quite a splash all those years ago. “Salem ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” possessed Marlena said.
The devil suggested that if Marlena hadn’t let him back in, then that old soul Doug would be paying the ultimate price. Suddenly, John entered and wondered if Marlena was all right. When John realized he’d left his box of possession-related mementos out on the table, he was apologetic.
Marlena initially acted like it was fine to discuss the possession, but she grew irritated as John talked about their love and faith in God defeating the devil. John then held up his old Bible and got a strong, unexpected reaction.
“Put that damn thing away!” Marlena shouted – though she quickly added that maybe she was just on edge over the whole conversation. John understood and argued this is exactly why Johnny shouldn’t make his movie. When John pointed out it might mean inviting evil back into their lives, possessed Marlena thought John could be right about that.
Afterward, Marlena went to the hospital at Julie’s request. Julie couldn’t make sense of the situation because Doug kept muttering Marlena’s name and insisting she needed help. Marlena wanted to speak with Doug alone, which led to some sinister moments.
“Seems like you’ve been a little bit of a tattletale. I think we’ll just have to do something about that,” possessed Marlena told Doug as he squirmed in his hospital bed.
In New Orleans on Friday’s Days episode, Ciara and Ben came back to their hotel room out of the downpour. They talked about going downtown to the jazz club earlier and reflected on their recent visit to Oak Valley.
Ciara thought Ben was awfully quiet afterward, so Ben recalled the tour guide talking about how you have to reckon with the past and how violence couldn’t stay buried under the surface. Ben related to that and felt no matter how much he tried to atone, he had been capable of murder and that would always be part of him.
Ciara argued that Ben’s past didn’t have to define him and pushed him to stop torturing himself. However, Ben confessed that he’d been thinking about his past a lot lately. He hadn’t been able to stop ever since Ciara said she wanted to have a baby.
Ben worried the sickness he had could be passed down to his child. He pointed out that mental illness could be hereditary, so Ciara realized Ben had made excuses to cover up what was at the heart of it all. Ciara assumed Ben didn’t want to pass bad genes down to his baby, so Ben confirmed that was the real reason he wanted to put off having a child.
That left Ciara with another question – one she hoped Ben would answer honestly. Ciara wanted to know if this meant Ben would never want to have a baby with her.
