In tonight’s FBI episode, OA is a Muslim American. He understands how hard it was for people with his faith and who looked like him after 9/11. It was one of the reasons he joined the military. He wanted to make a difference. He wanted to prove that there were good and bad in every religion.

Not just Islam. OA went from the military to the FBI. He was recruited by a fellow Muslim American. They actually both did a seminar recently about joining the FBI to a couple of potential candidates and so they ran into each other there, but then OA got a call from work and he had to answer it. He and his team were investigating a possible hate crime.

Kosey Khan was murdered at his home. His brother Amir survived the attack and was still in the hospital, but Amir wasn’t in a state to talk and no one has any idea why the two men came into the home or why they were stabbed. The only suspicion was that their ethnicity may have played a part. OA and Maggie went to the brothers’ imam. OA recognized him because the man was his imam as well and so he got his old advisor to give him the layout. It turns out that a white man had accosted the brothers outside of the mosque. He told them to go back to their own country. And the imam had then come out to run him off.

The imam reported it to the FBI helpline. He never heard back from them. He thought they just ignored it and they hadn’t. The guy who runs the helpline was Special Agent Bashar. He and the imam knew each other. They didn’t get along and Bashar didn’t bother to tell him that he checked out the earlier hate crime. It turns out that it was carried out by someone Kosey knew. Kosey was a college student. He was in the States on a visa. His brother on the other hand was here illegally. They were mostly living under the radar until Kosey started out odd at school. Some guy who was admittedly racist had followed him one day.

James spotted Kosey printing something on the 3D printer that he was willing to fight to hide. Kosey had punched James when James got too close and he ran off. Only James didn’t kill Kosey or attack his brother. The FBI looked into it and they determined that he had a solid alibi during the murder.

They also determined that Kosey had built a 3D gun. One that wouldn’t be detected with thermal imaging. Kosey and Amir’s mosque was also being investigated for terrorist connections. Bashar was a friend of OA’s and so he thought he could turn to his mentor for more information but Bashar thought OA was being naïve about the mosque being innocent.

This was even confirmed when Amir woke up in the hospital. He told the FBI that he recognized two light skin men from the mosque. They drive a gold car. They also had beards. Bashir had felt vindicated for judging the mosque and OA went back to the mosque to discuss this with the imam.

The imam refused to talk. OA also learned that the reason Bashir is so tough on the mosque and imam is that the imam once reported someone he suspected of terrorism to the FBI. He did it because he wanted everyone to be safe. He never expected that the FBI or a particular FBI Agent would become obsessed with the mosque believing they’re covering up a bigger plot.

Bashir explained himself to OA. He said he did it because another terrorist attack on American soil by a Muslim would send Muslim relations back twenty years. But his methods left a lot to be desired. He forced people into becoming informants. They weren’t giving any actual information. They were just reporting others for visa violations and the imam’s own brother was deported for one such violation. Bashir used a fake photo of the imam’s brother meeting with terrorists to shake the imam. Then he sent OA to act as the good guy and get the information. It worked. OA found the names of the Chechens he was looking for. And the FBI learned about the bigger plot.

The Chechens wanted an undetectable gun because they were after a war criminal that was visiting New York on a press tour. The FBI was able to stop the plot and they caught the others involved. But OA felt Bashir had crossed a line. He talked to the imam and the imam wanted to report Bashir for abuse of his power. OA was thinking of it when Isobel asked him about it. And OA chose to back up Bashir over the imam.

OA will never be welcomed back to the mosque, but he that’s okay because he chose his job and his job was more important to him.

THE END!
