Tonight’s episode begins with Conrad, he walks into the emergency and finds out that a 26-year old man, Larry Harley, overdosed on olanzapine, he had a prescription on him, it was Conrad who wrote it. This prescription was from the same pharmacy as the last one, on 10th street, Conrad doesn’t think it is a coincidence. Conrad heads right over to the pharmacy, he brings it to their attention and the pharmacist, Phoebe Moffit, says she just fills the prescriptions that come in. He tells her fraudulent prescriptions are being written and people are being hurt. She tells him to wait while she goes to pull some records. She is in the back of the pharmacy looking in a file folder and a man walks in, asks her what she is doing, and if the guy at the front is asking questions. She says no, his credit card wasn’t working and she had to check his file. Meanwhile,
Conrad gets a call that there is a multi-vehicle accident and they need his help. Two cars were street racing and crashed into a store. One kid, Maximo, has a pole lodged through his leg and another in his stomach, he was one of the drivers. Conrad tells the emergency team on site that they need free him, he is bleeding out. There is also a mother who was in the store who is injured.
AJ arrives at the emergency to help out, he got a message from Conrad. Alicia comes in with her mother who was hurt in the store. AJ is there, they lost all pressure Devon is also trying to attend to her.
Alicia asks Devon how her mom is doing, he tells her that her mom sustained serious injuries to her heart, but she has a fighting chance. Alicia’s dad is there, he says they left China and the store was her idea. Just then, Maximo’s parents come in and Alicia and her father yell at them for giving their son and racing car that might kill her mother. Once Alicia leaves with her dad, Maximo’s mother tells his father that this is his fault.
A woman comes into the ER, she was found unresponsive, in the stairwell of her building. Conrad goes over and notices that it is the pharmacist, Phoebe. Conrad can’t get her to wake up. She has a brain bleed and is rushed to the emergency room. Her blood came back, her blood alcohol was negative. Cade tells Conrad that he shouldn’t have gone to the pharmacy without her.
AJ’s mom Carol is in the hospital, and Devon is there to check her. She tells him that her bad days are getting worse, her good days as well. This started a couple of days ago, before that she was doing well. They do some tests, her cancer has spread to her brain and her chest wall. AJ has to tell his mother, Devon offers to do it with him, but he says no. AJ tells her that the cancer is progressing which is why she has difficulty breathing.
AJ’s mother is devastated, and so is she. He tells her she has a few months, she tells him that they knew this was coming. She wants to leave the hospital, and go home with him. She doesn’t want to spend any more time in a hospital. He tells her they have to talk about hospice, she doesn’t want to, that means the end. He tells her that is not true, hospice nurses manage pain more than a lot of doctors. He assures her that she will not have to step into the hospital again.
Conrad is with Phoebe who is starting to wake up. Cade tells her that she is at the hospital, and that she had a fall. She remembers what happened. All of a sudden, she starts going into respiratory distress. Conrad orders more tests, he wants to know what is going on with her.
Turns out Maximo was driving a Porsche. Randolph and Kit are looking at his x-rays, he has an open fracture of the right femur and bilateral fractures. Kit is worried about Randolph, she tells him that she can call in another surgeon. He tells her he is fine, the steroids are helping the MS.
Phoebe is going into renal failure, they are running out of time. Conrad comes up with an idea to use a blacklight to look at Phoebe there around her mouth and fingers is a substance and her urine is fluorescent, someone tried to poison her.
Maximo is not doing well in surgery, but they manage to stabilize him. Meanwhile, AJ loses with a resident who trips over tubes that were inside Alicia’s mother and pushes her back to surgery. The resident goes to speak to Alicia and her dad about her mom, he tells them there has been an accident, there is a hole in her artery and she is now in surgery, it is his fault. Alicia says it should have been her that was hurt at the store. Maximo’s dad is crying, he says he grew up poor and wanted to give his kid everything, he is crying. He tells Alicia’s husband that when this is all over and everyone is ok they will help to rebuild their lives.
Alicia’s mother is recovering, she made it through surgery.
Maximo’s legs are repaired, in a few weeks, he may be able to start walking again. He is in recovery and tells his parents that he is ashamed. His father tells him that he won’t be driving anything for a long time and he is ashamed too, he should never have put him behind that car. And, they will take responsibility and help Alicia’s family to rebuild their store.
Conrad found an antidote, now that he figures out that Phoebe was poisoned. He goes to her room and sees a man coming, he approaches him, the man starts leaving quickly, he was the one in the file room with Phoebe at the pharmacy. The guy disconnects the heart monitor for Phoebe, and she starts to go into cardiac arrest. She is gone, they couldn’t bring her back. A detective is there, Phoebe was wearing a wire, she was being blackmailed. Conrad says they got a good look at the killer, the detective says he is more worried that the killer go a good look at them. Conrad tells Cade they have each other’s back, they fight this together.
AJ brings his mom home, his hospice nurse is there and Carol looks like she likes her right away.
