In tonight’s The Rookie; Feds episode, there were killers on the loose in LA. These guys would break into people’s homes. They would murder people inside and they got away with it because they staged the deaths to look like accidents. They were unfortunately too good to get noticed by regular cops.

They were getting away with their crimes when they targeted the wrong person. They targeted someone who had enough time to call it in. She was a criminal informant for FBI Special Agent Mike Jeffers. She hasn’t been in contact with him for a while and that’s why she didn’t know that he died a couple of months ago. And so it was Simone who answered her call.

Simone was supposed to be doing inventory around the office. It was so easy that her training agent didn’t even stick around for it. He took the day off. Brendan and Laura were meanwhile were doing their own inane stuff and so it was just Simone in the office when she went to go check several phones that were no longer in use.

One of these phones rang. Simone answered and she got a very privileged woman complaining how she needed to talk to Jeffers. Simone informed this woman that Jeffers was dead and she correctly guess that the woman was a CI.

Simone then offered to help this person with the same conditions that Jeffers had. She would protect them. She just needed information in return. She was trying to win this stranger’s trust and she got it because this woman claimed she saw something the night before.

She was about to tell Simone when she heard someone breaking in. She told Simone she heard someone breaking. Then the line went dead. It went dead before Simone could trace it, but Simone was able to get the woman’s name from Oliver.

Remember Oliver! He was Simone’s boss for a day when she managed to get on Garza’s team. Simone didn’t have Carter and so she asked Oliver to go with her to Gracie Hunt’s home to check on her.

But sadly, Simone found Gracie dead. Oliver wanted to dismiss her death as another senseless OD. Simone however knew that Gracie wouldn’t get high after she heard someone break into her house and so she took this case to Garza. Garza knew when to trust Simone’s instincts. Simone has a good feel for a case. He gave her leave to look into Gracie’s death and he assigned Oliver to be in charge of her.

Carter was still taking his day off. Or he was supposed to. He found out that someone has been stealing prescriptions pills at his girlfriend’s hospital and that she was getting blamed for it. The hospital knew her mom was an ex-con. They were claiming the apple doesn’t fall from far from the tree. Which was ridiculous because her mom ran a strip club. She didn’t steal prescriptions and so he decided to investigate the theft with his girlfriend’s help. He later learned that a kid was being threatened with his grandmother’s life into stealing the prescriptions. And so Carter had a sting.

His replacement meanwhile had nothing on him. Oliver was a good guy. He’s just been at a desk too long because the first time he got hurt on the job he wanted to back out and go back to hiding behind a desk. Simone had to convince him to help her save day. They found out that Gracie used to host under the table poker games at her house. She had one game the night before she died. Only she left early. It was unlike her because no one had ever seen her do that before and so Simone and Oliver looked into the people at that game.

They found someone that Brendan knew. It was actually his acting rival and so Simone had to sweet talk Brendan into helping. It turns out the guy was no help only he did record the conversation during the game and the agents found something interesting. They found someone making a call that sounded like a hit. Simone recognized the speech pattern as someone having a speech impediment. Oliver figured out that person was Mitch Ballard. He spoke at speech disability conference and he wanted to kill a man at the funeral of his loved one.

He almost got away with it. Only Simone and Oliver showed up at the funeral. They administered first aide to the man they tried to kill and they arrested one of the hitmen. They had to rush their survivor to the hospital and there they ran into Carter. Carter had solved his crime too. He found out that an elderly mafia enforcer had been the one threatening that poor boy’s grandma. The guy and the grandma were at the same retirement home. And Joseph Cicero hated it there, so he was going to sell enough pills to get into a better retirement home.

Also, he was just a thug.

Brendan and Laura’s thing also turned into a case. They found out an assistant within the FBI had helped a woman with a podcast to steal evidence and that they were doing it because they thought there would be a huge pay day at the end of it. And so they got arrested

And Oliver proved he was good at the job. So much so that Simone apologized for abandoning his office the way she did. She could have learned a lot from him.

THE END!
