In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Capp found out about a certain someone going to marriage counseling with his wife. He didn’t spread it around the firehouse or anything. He just privately asked Cruz about it. He overheard Cruz on the phone with Chloe. He knew they were in trouble and he asked how counseling was going?
Capp has been dating a woman for several weeks now. They thought they needed counseling too. Cruz chose to ignore that one and he instead said that the counseling was going well. Cruz and Chloe were struggling with communication. Chloe hates when he does twenty-four-hour shifts because she feels like a single mom during them. And Cruz was looking for more responsibility, not less.
Cruz wanted to move up through the ranks of the Chicago Fire Department. He wanted to lead his own team one day. He was done with playing second fiddle to Severide.
He loves Severide like a brother. Only Cruz got a taste of what it would be like to run his own team. He liked the responsibility. He liked making the calls. It was hard for him to wait on someone else’s orders now. Cruz later got called out to a massive fire along with the rest of 51. The fire happened in a building where the homeless take shelter during the colder months.
The firefighters had to break down the door. They cleared the area. They also searched for anyone that might have been injured and they carried out the ones that were.
Severide carried out a man that was worried about someone else still in the building. The man tried to rush back in when suddenly Jared Lennox came back like a bad penny to drug this man. Lennox was in a new firehouse. He was still a paramedic. He was just a bad paramedic. He didn’t even look over this man before drugging him.
This man was known as Omar. He had to be intubated at the hospital from what Lennox did. There was only two people that saw what Lennox did. Violet and Severide. They couldn’t report it without it looking like revenge. Lennox once reported the both of them. Severide was in charge with Chief Boden out of town.
He decided to report Lennox for what happened. He left Violet out of it so that he’s the only that takes the hit if they get in trouble with Chief Robinson. They didn’t have time to worry about that because Cruz had needed to be hospitalized after the fire.
Cruz took off his oxygen mask to give to a woman he had to carry out of the building. He struggled with breathing at first. He also passed out. He was rushed to the hospital. They checked him over. He was fine and he didn’t see why everyone was worried about him. His wife rushed down to see him.
She was worried. She brought up Trudy after Mouch had his near miss. That was when Cruz realized that his wife has been pulling away ever since the thing with Mouch. Chloe was fine with him being a firefighter until that moment. It’s when she realized how dangerous his job was.
Cruz talked it over with his wife. He told her that quitting was the one thing he couldn’t do. He loves his job. He loves his friends. Chloe wasn’t just pulling away from him.
She was doing that with 51 as well. She closed herself off after Mouch almost died. She started worrying that everyone call would be the department saying Cruz was in an accident. She couldn’t live her life in fear. She started pushing her husband to protect herself and still she was freaked out when he had to go the hospital. She has to make peace with his job one way or another.
Cruz hasn’t told anyone at the firehouse about Chloe. His team became concerned about beating a world record. They heard from a rival firehouse that they broke the world record for fastest save. The other house then taunted 51 about that. Which was why they became interested in also getting in the book.
Capp and Tony were trying every crazy thing they could. Cruz was just along for the ride. Severide ended up getting sidetracked by Chief Robinson. She visited 51. She pretended to congratulate Severide for his decisive actions in calling out what Lennox did.
Violet and Novak meanwhile got a bad call. They found an elderly woman injured. She was clearly suffering from dementia and her husband of fifty years had sadly died in his sleep.
It was looking like a cardiac event. The paramedics had to call the police and the coroner. They also tried to explain to Joanne what happened with John. The poor woman didn’t really know what was going on. She’s been trying to take care of herself for days and she injured her hand. Unless she has family willing to take care of her, she might get put in a home.
Novak stays in the floater pool because she never wants to be anywhere long enough to see death. It’s the one thing she wasn’t blasé about. She cares about people. She doesn’t want to see anyone truly harmed or watch heartbreak. When they returned to the house, Severide told Violet about Robinson coming to congratulate him.
She had apparently fired Lennox. They thought the most he would get was a suspension and so Robinson proved to be far more cutthroat than they initially believed.
Also, Chloe stopped by the firehouse. She decided to make her peace with his job. She also met the woman he rescued and it reminded her how great her husband is. Tony and Capp did end up breaking the world record but they didn’t have anyone from Guiness there and so it didn’t count.
They would have to pay twelve hundred dollars to get an official there. Something they thought was laughable. They gave up on winning against the other squad right then and there. They even made Novak laugh after a tough call.
But Lennox stopped by. He warned Severide that Robinson cut him loose because interim DC Barnes was stepping down next week. If they wanted to take out Robinson, they have to do it before then.
THE END!
