In tonight’s NCIS episode, McGee was talking about remodeling the kitchen with his wife. Delilah hates their current kitchen. Nothing works. It was all falling apart. She was fine with the kitchen before they had the twins and the twins dirtied it up. They also broke a few things. Now she was ready for a remodel.

They couldn’t really afford that at the moment because the twins were coming close to summer camp season. Those weren’t cheap. They also needed to afford a family vacation this year.

McGee didn’t want to push those back because of a kitchen remodel even if they do need one. He tried talking to his friends about it at work and Parker warned him against a remodel. He said his own marriage didn’t last because of one.

The team was called in when the dismembered body of Marine Captain Tom Riley was found. It was found behind a dumpster. It was clearly murder.

The victim was killed within the last two days. It just didn’t make sense because Tom was allegedly dead for over two years. He supposedly died in an accident in San Diego. He was one of four marines coming back from a training session when their helicopter flew into some bad weather. It crashed over the water. Everyone on that helicopter was assumed dead.

Tom was the pilot of the helicopter. It was believed he might have been drunk during the accident. Tom had serious issues. He had more disciplinary actions than his Commanding Officer would like to admit.

They had no idea what to do with him when the accident happened and he probably realized he could start over. Which he did. Tom assumed a fake identity. He became known as Tom Wade. He moved to Texas. His apartment in a small town down there had been broken into. The sheriff called Tom about it and she never heard back.

For some reason, Tom traveled to the DC area recently. There was no explanation. He doesn’t have family there. They couldn’t find a hotel reservation. He came and was killed.

The question was why. The person that killed Tom was experienced. The body was cut up by a professional. There was also blood on the knife wounds that didn’t belong to Tom. It could either be the killer’s blood or belong to another victim. Knight and Torres were sent to Texas to find out about Tom’s life down there. They easily found the sheriff who also ran the local hotel.

The sheriff had no inkling that Tom was living under a fake identity. She didn’t know him well. They said a few hellos and that was it. She did know that Tom was working for the Bannons.

The Bannons were the biggest cattle ranchers in the state of Texas. They were a big deal in town. They carry a lot of weight. The cattle ranch was known as “Fire Creek”. It was run by Carl Bannon. Carl claims not to know Tom personally. He hires over seventy employees to work the ranch. He also allowed NCIS to talk to everyone.

Carl’s son didn’t like that. His son lied about knowing Tom well. He also tried to get the NCIS’s questions cleared beforehand with the lawyers. His father said he had nothing to hide and he gave the feds full permission to speak to everyone. Torres found out from one of the ranchers that Tom had something to hide.

Tom came to the farm one night. He loaded a bunch of boxes. He later lied about that when the woman that saw him asked him about it. He denied being on the ranch that night.

Torres and Knight followed up on the boxes he took. It was apparently clothes and toys. Tom donated the boxes to the local church. The church was flooded. They were operating out of a little room in town. They needed all the help they could find. Tom was helping them. He found God. He was in recovery from booze.

He lied about being on the ranch that night because he was with someone that night. He was with Carl’s son. Yeah, the son was gay. He didn’t think his father would understand and so he and Tom kept their relationship secret.

The son wasn’t ready to betray the father. Only he did mention that his father’s acquisition of Bluebonnet Ranch wasn’t above board. He was the family’s lawyer and his father didn’t want his involvement in that deal. This was important because NCIS believe Carl killed Tom. Not personally.

They think Carl ordered it. NCIS learned from Tom’s pastor that he found evidence against the Bannons. He went to DC to report it because the Bannons have all the local officials in Texas in their back pocket. This was connected to the Bluebonnet Ranch acquisition.

The Bluebonnet Ranch was once owned by a family. Carl wanted their ranch. He intentionally set fire to it and he forced the owners to sell the ranch to him for basic pennies.

There were witnesses that saw members of Carl’s ranch near Bluebonnet Ranch on the day of the fire. The witnesses were paid off. The investigation into the arson went nowhere when the investigator was paid off. It was all connected back to Carl. They were tracking down the wire transfers. They were looking into the witnesses.

They tried talking to Carl again. It went nowhere because he quickly lawyered up. He has an army of lawyers and he was going to stonewall them for as long as possible.

It turns out he wasn’t the one calling the shots though. One of his ranchers had been smuggling drugs through the meat carcasses they sent to the meat plant in DC. Tom found the drugs one night while he was looking for donations for the church. He goes to DC to report it at meat plant and those involved had him killed. Carl didn’t know anything about the drug smuggling.

Except his ranch wasn’t going to survive it. He barely did because his rancher shot him before trying to make an escape. NCIS found too much evidence against Carl. He’ll be facing charges. Torres caught up to the shooter and arrested her as well. And Carl’s son was ready to let the ranch go, he wanted to start over somewhere new where he could be free.

Delilah meanwhile changed her mind about remodeling. She signed them up for a reality show that would have paid for it and they were unfortunately too tame for reality tv.

The producers wanted drama. The McGees couldn’t provide it. The reality dropped them and they were going to do the remodel themselves when Delilah changed her mind. The kitchen was full of memories. She didn’t want to let that go or lose her kids’ heigh chart on the wall.

THE END!
