In tonight’s American Ninja Warrior episode, the Eastern Qualifying event kicked off tonight! They split things up into regions this season to give everyone a chance. It had to be better than people travelling thousands of miles and waiting on long lines just to compete, but it feels like a redo everyone couple of episode. They’re setting the stage for the clash of the titans sort of event at the end.
It was the West’s time last week. It was the Eastern seaboard’s time now. Up first Lisa Hair. She was a mother of two suffering from a chronic medical battle. Her girls convinced her to get active again. And it was the show that showed her how to do it in style.
The obstacle course was switched up to other events. They brought back Rollercoaster and Domino Effect. They also included Wall To Wall. Now, that last one seemed to be the most difficult. Not that anyone could sleep on the other obstacles that have taken out the best of the best. Lisa made it all the way to the fifth obstacle before she dropped. She was the first to experience to Wall To Wall. It was the obstacle that took her down and she might still qualify for the next round depending on how the others do. Next up was Daroch Willmoth. He was also known as D-Rex.
D-Rex couldn’t be the Rocker Ninja because that title already went to someone else. He did on the other hand start a rock band with his friends and family. He wore a signature ponytail that he strokes for good luck on the course. It must’ve worked because he was the first finisher of the night. He made it up the Warped Wall. He didn’t qualify for the Mega but he still achieved something pretty great and he convinced the hosts to try out their own hair extensions so that they could stoke their ponytails for luck.
Glenn Davis was out here showing off his old man’s strength tonight. He took Akbar’s statement from the past and turned it into his moniker. He was the proud of his old man strength. He was happily a grandfather of two. His father was in his nineties still doing well. Glenn took after him. He happened to be the oldest ninja on the course tonight and he didn’t let that stop him. He made it to the fourth obstacle when he fell on Kite Surfer. He might still qualify for the next round if he’s lucky because ninjas were still falling on Wall To Wall.
Next up was Lily Barret. She was one of a kid even as she was one of two. She has an identical twin named Charlotte. Charlotte will also be running tonight. Lily made it up to Wall To Wall when she fell. The same goes for their coach. He fell at the exact same spot as his student during the commercial break. The last piece of the obstacle was just too difficult to handle for a lot of these ninjas tonight. Charlotte had her run after the commercial break and it happened again. She fell right where her sister as well as her coach did.
They were followed by Charlie Ball. He was a rookie yet Akbar picked him as his favorite for the fastest time. He and Matt knew Charlie from ANW Juniors. He’s only gotten better since then. He sped through the course until he was at the fifth obstacle in under thirty seconds. He became the second person to complete Wall To Wall. He was the fastest finisher of the night. He even qualified for the Mega Wall. He just didn’t make it up there this time. Notice the this time because this kid will definitely make it up there eventually.
Chris Tower was up next. He’s been doing extreme sports for most of his life. He built his own playground that happily named the Devil’s Playground. It was located in his backyard and it wasn’t safe for anyone other than him. He made it to the second obstacle when he fell. He was unfortunately out for the count tonight. Next up was Taylor Johnson. She was also known as TJ. She was one of the shortest and she still managed to fly through the air. It helps that she was on the dunk team for the Boston Celtics.
TJ became the first woman to make it past Wall To Wall. She also became the first female finisher of the night. She waited eight long years for this moment and now that it’s here – she was at a loss on what to say. She was just so happy. She was followed by Luke Dillion. He was an Orlando ninja. He trained with a bunch of them down there and he fell right where his training partner fell on the Domino Effect. Another one of their group went on right on after him. Her name is Avery Glantz. She called their group the Motion Mob.
They bring together different styles of motion to create their own unique ninja style. Only Avery didn’t fall where her friends did. She went on to become the second woman to complete Wall To Wall and the third finisher of the night. There were even more finishers during the commercial break. Almost as if Charlie Ball broke a curse after his run. Joe Moravsky was probably hoping it stayed that way because he had his run after the commercial break and unfortunately the luck didn’t rub off on him. He was out by the Rollercoaster.
Juggling family, job, and training wasn’t easy.
Mazeiah Andrade was next. He was an only child for quite a bit until his brother was born years after him. Now, Mazeiah was a full-time babysitter. He learned how to change a diaper and he also learned how to be a role model for his little brother. He’s never made it past the fifth obstacle, but things went different tonight. He managed to overcome Wall To Wall and became another finisher. The babysitting seemed to have worked out for him. He helped him hyper focus on every bit of the obstacle.
Matt Kalanz was next. He went out on the Domino Effect and that was it for him, but he was followed by Bob Reese. He had an incredible viral moment where he flipped on the course. He eventually realized that he was good at this and he began taking it seriously. Well, now he has more reason to do so. He was a dad now. He wanted speed and he went for it. He didn’t go for style. He raced through the course and finished with perhaps the fastest time of the night. He had a chance at the Mega. He almost got it too. He just couldn’t hold onto it long enough to hit a buzzer.
Next up was Sebastian Ramos. He was from the Empire State. He went after another guy from NYC went. They didn’t seem to train together but oddly they fell in the same place on the same bit of obstacle. The Dreaded Wall To Wall. Zuri’s pick for fastest time went next and Nacssa Garemore didn’t disappoint. Zuri knew he’d finish the course at fifty seconds. She was proven right when Nacssa did exactly that. He almost fell on the Rollercoaster. Only he recovered in time to course correct.
Nacssa was barely on the course before he was going after that Mega. He tried in the past and it was only tonight that he finally hit a buzzer from up there. He was the first finisher to win ten grand. He was also the fastest so far. Zuri might win the side bet they’ve got going. Next up was Grace Gordon. She was also known as Amazing Grace. Her first coach happened to be the OG Rocker Ninja, RJ Roman. She made every coach proud as she managed to hold on in spite several stumbles and became one of the few female finishers of the night.
Addy Herman went next. She was literally on a poster of ANW. She now travels the country sparking inspiration. Addy has had so many close calls and she almost had it tonight when she fell on Wall To Wall. She still went far enough fast enough to qualify for the next round. She was followed by Rachell DeGutz. Rachel was back with a new rock. She was newly engaged to her boyfriend. She wanted to celebrate and unfortunately her night ended far too soon. She fell on the Rollercoaster. It was the second time that a legend went out on that obstacle.
Next up was another legend. Flip Rodriguez returned to the course. He fell on the balance obstacle last season and so this season was his redemption. He made it past the Domino Effect. He sailed through the course. He got his twenty-sixth buzzer but he was just four minutes past the cut off for the Mega. That’s okay. He’ll get it next season if not next round. After the commercial break, there was Matt’s pick for the fastest time. He chose Noah Meunier. Noah has been so close to winning it all several times that it just doesn’t seem fair he hasn’t gotten it in the three seasons he’s competed.
Noah raced through the course tonight. He missed fastest time by 6/10s of a second. Again, it wasn’t fair. The upside was that he’d could go after the Mega and he was the second person after Nacssa to win an additional ten grand.
And the winner of the fastest time of the night went to Kevin Rodriguez who ran during a commercial break.
THE END!
