On tonight’s Boston Blue episode, NYPD Detective Baez was drawn to Boston due to a case. She was chasing a man wanted for murder. Kiko Balzan got into an argument with a young med student over a girl at a nightclub.
Somehow it ended with Balzan killing the kid before fleeing town. He was originally from Boston. His family member tipped off NYPD that he returned.
They added that Balzan would rather die than return to prison. This case was delicate. Baez came up to work with Dany and Lena. They were the detectives running point in Boston. This also happened to be the first case that Danny worked with Baez since they started dating.
There was one main issue in their working relationship. Baez was acting differently. She worked with Danny for years before they became something more.
She’s even helped him with a few cases since he began again in Boston. Yet, she was acting so oddly this trip that Danny got worried. He told her that they do something romantic once they catch this guy and Baez didn’t smile or seem happy about it. It was like she was gearing up to break up with him. It left him at a loss. Danny being Danny though he tried to throw himself into work.
They went to Balzan’s location. They were too late to stop him from fleeing. They also learned one other thing. They found out that Balzan had abducted someone. He was with two other guys in NYC.
None of the witnesses could pick them out of a lookbook because they were Boston natives. They were like Balzan in that matter. Baez and Danny talked it through.
They surmised that Balzan needed money and he probably needed it fast. He’s been on the run since the murder in NYC has been in the news. And abducting someone for ransom would fit him.
They found security footage of him moving his hostage. The same hostage he held for days before moving him. Lena had a theory on who the hostage might be.
She believed him to be Miguel Sariniero. Miguel’s car was found abandoned not far from where he was held. He was a teacher. He lived with his father.
They lived in a nice neighborhood and still nothing screamed this was about a ransom. They weren’t that well off. Danny doubted Lena’s theory and he was slowly figuring out she was rarely wrong.
Miguel was their kidnapped victim. They found out that his father had put together a lot of cash. He didn’t want the cops finding out that he was paying the ransom. He was afraid they would get his son killed.
The cops swore they weren’t going to let that happen. They were going to help. They also needed to know where Miguel’s father got all that money.
It turns out he was a cab driver for thirty years. He recently retired. He sold his cab car and someone started a rumor that he was a millionaire. He wasn’t. Lyft and Uber ensured he walked away with two hundred thousand dollars.
Not that Miguel’s kidnappers realize it. They wanted that money to start over. Funnily enough, even if the dad had it, the million dollars doesn’t stretch as much as it used to.
The kidnappers should’ve aimed higher and its because they weren’t smart that they made a mistake. They went back to one of their old haunts. Its how the police found them. This was happening as Jonah and Sean had a case of their own. They stopped a fifteen year old girl from killing her father with a shotgun. There’s been plenty of domestic calls to the house with that girl named Nadine.
Nadine was often hospitalized. Her father had everyone convinced that she was crazy. The truth was that he was abusing her and only Jonah believed her story. Jonah had a friend that told him about her dad. Anna took it back after Jonah said they should tell someone. Her dad went on to get arrested a year later.
Jonah knew he should told his parents from his start and the fact he didn’t has always haunted him. So, he believed Nadine. She said her father did disgusting things in the attic with a treasure chest.
Jonah told his sister about his gut instinct. She believed him. They got a warrant for the house and they found the treasure chest hidden in a giant teddy bear. It had perfume, make up, and a camera.
The camera showed how Trey Larson abused his daughter. She tried to kill him out of fear he would start on her younger sister. Now, they had enough to arrest him and so Nadine was free to return home. Her mother and sister never knew what she endured, but they were grateful to finally know what was wrong.
Sara’s boyfriend Seth blindsided Mae at a press conference about an extradition, Only he made up for it. He later proposed to Sara and she said yes. The proposal came at Grandpa’s eightieth birthday party.
It also happened right after Baez, Danny, and Lena caught their guys. Danny has to do something reckless only it worked. They rescued Miguel. He was safe. His dad was safe. Let the rumors about them being rich now die. And it took Seth proposing to Sara to get Baez to break down.
Baez’s mother was now living with her. She’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. There are days when her mom doesn’t know who she is and so she can’t be left alone or with a babysitter.
This along with her daughter made Baez realize that she can’t make it work with Danny. They can no longer do long-distance. She doesn’t want to take him from Boston. She can’t leave New York. She thought this might be it for their relationship and Danny didn’t feel the same. He thought they could still work. He hopes they can still work things out.
THE END!
