In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, someone was targeting a high school principal. They tried to torch his office when he was supposed to be in there. They didn’t count on him for running late that day and so they ended up injuring someone else. The poor janitor who was just doing his job.

The device was set off by time and that meant their arsonist could be anyone. There was a social media page called “I Hate Mr. Cole”. It was set up by students as well as former students. There were over eighty-six members of this group. Most of whom wrote some sick stuff about wanting to hurt this one principal.

They hated him so much that they tried to kill him again. Unfortunately, he wasn’t alone. Severide and his good friend from the arson investigation office went to Mr. Cole’s apartment to talk to him about the group’s page.

They wanted him to know if anyone stood out. The sad thing that most of it he heard in person. He never thought any of it was serious. The men were still at his apartment when they spotted smoke. Their arsonist had fire bombed the front and back exits hoping to finally kill Mr. Cole.

The firefighters got the principal out of the burning building via the window. They tied a bunch of clothes together to rope him down. Captain Van Meter went next. Severide went last. Van Meter had gotten injured.

The fire exploded on his back. He was already coughing by time he lowered to the ground. He passed out not long after that. He took in too much smoke. Severide went him with to the hospital. He himself suffered minor smoke inhalation. He also had some burns to one hand. It was Van Meter whose life was at risk.

If they didn’t get his oxygen levels up, he won’t make it through the night. Severide didn’t care about his own injuries. Van Meter was a friend and so he stayed by his side even as he continued investigating.

It was personal now. Chicago PD also had questions. Detective Gerard stopped by the hospital to see Severide. He wasn’t going to take the case from him. He merely wanted to assist with the investigation. Like finding out who created the Facebook group. The person who hated Cole enough to create it might be their guy.

Or girl. The cops later learned that the person that created the group was Lily Metzger. She’s been difficult at school. Her parents were huge donors so that covered up for most of her problems. Only she’s never dealt directly with Mr. Cole. She was frequent flier like others. She cut a few classes and talks back.

Cole didn’t think it was serious enough to create a group much less set arson. Severide remembered what Van Meter told him at the start. The person who set the fire must have done so for a personal reason because it took rage to do what they did.

Van Meter just didn’t match up with Cole’s take on events. Cole didn’t even know that Lily was friends with Wyatt. Wyatt was the kid they first suspected of targeting the principal.

He had an airtight alibi. Cole didn’t even know that Wyatt and Lily were friends. The authorities spoke with Lily. She was a jaded teenager. She wasn’t upset by what was on the page or what happened. She blatantly lied about an alibi for the second fires. She claimed she was at home in her room. She got her mother to back her up right then and there because the woman was a pushover.

No one believed her about the alibi. Lily also handed over her laptop so that they could use it. Severide had a feeling that their arsonist would post about it. He was proven partially right when a video of Cole’s apartment building on fire was posted. They traced the user who posted it back to Malcolm Taylor.

Another dumb kid. They got a warrant for his place. He tried to escape via the window and Severide caught up to him. He got him to come in because the kid wasn’t their arsonist. He took a video for clout and he accidentally caught the back of arsonist heading down Aberdeen.

Severide remembered that Wyatt lived on Aberdeen. Wyatt stopped by the hospital to check on Van Meter. It wasn’t a brief visit either. What did Wyatt know that made him feel guilty? Wyatt has a solid alibi for the first fire. Lily was seen at Wyatt’s house after the first fire. Did she go to his house after the second one?

Her alibi wasn’t as airtight. Lily lied about being home and that because she was with friends outside. She was seen on surveillance cameras of a café. She was in the clear. Her laptop also showed she just created the group for giggles.

She didn’t care what happened to Cole or anyone else for that matter. Now, Wyatt’s father however was concerned about him getting into college. It couldn’t happen if the principal expelled his son for drug related offences. Wyatt had his own account in the Facebook group so why did someone post incognito from his home.

It couldn’t have been. Severide felt it had to be Kevin Moore the father. He brought in for questioning. Things got hot and now Severide was off the case. He’s been benched and Kevin wasn’t under arrest.

And Chief Pascal learned it was his new girlfriend that wanted to decommission Mouch’s engine and forced the man into early retirement. Thus the relationship was now over.

THE END!
