In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Detective Eva Imani couldn’t ignore a child in danger. She received a call from Julie Bell late at night. The call was disconnected before Julie said anything and Imani feared that meant Julie’s grandfather found her before she could ask for help. Yet, rushing over to the Bell Estate wasn’t without risk. Imani didn’t get backup.
She didn’t tell her boss. She just went running and she actually committed a crime as she was trying to help this young girl. She broke into the palatial house. She searched it. She found the basement. It’s where Julie’s grandfather Raymond Bell tortured his victims.
Raymond Bell was a sick man. He abused his son. He turned his son into a killer. The son was now dead after committing suicide and Bell was abusing his granddaughter.
The poor girl was so traumatized that she didn’t think she could fight against her grandfather. Julie spotted Imani in the house first. She locked her up in the dungeon room. She refused to help the detective. Imani had to break out on her own. She found a victim in the torture room. She didn’t have reception down there so she went looking for Julie once she got free.
She found Julie only Julie’s grandfather had returned by then. Julie was too afraid to act against him. She called out for him and he began firing at Imani. She barricaded herself in a room to survive. Bell escaped with his granddaughter in the meantime. He didn’t take his car. He was on foot. Imani called it in to her boss.
She was forced to defend herself because what she did broke several commands. Voight had to talk her through what their version of events were going to be. Imani received a message from Julie. She went over there and she entered upon hearing screams.
She allegedly found the victim while searching the house for a suspect. Imani hadn’t cared what DCFS would say about what she actually did. She couldn’t leave a child like that with someone they suspected of violence. Her real version of events just weren’t going to fly with the white shirts.
Commander Devlin was sniffing around the case. He didn’t like that Voight got his unit back or that he did so by blackmailing Devlin himself. Devlin couldn’t wait to catch Voight on some infraction so he could fire him and possibly disband his unit. And this case might have given him what he needed.
It’s why Voight insisted on his version being the official version. Imani was lying to the cop taking her statement when Detective Atwater found the bodies. Bell was a serial killer. He tortured them in the basement to death.
Then he’d put them in the walls. The window seat. He had bodies hidden all over the house. This included a nurse who tried to report him for abuse and who disappeared years ago. Bell was a monster. He probably messed up his kid so bad that he turned him into a killer. Its not like his son or his granddaughter were free to play in a room full of dead bodies.
Plus, the man that Imani saved had survived. He said the girl didn’t blink when the man pulled her from the trunk. Julie had asked her grandpa where he’d been and he said Lockport so she asked him if he saw Preston. Preston was their cousin. He went his own way after the family business went bankrupt. He was a married guy with kids living in Lockport and he seemed to have no contact with the Bell family. Bell was probably heading towards Preston’s place now that he has a car. He carjacked someone.
He brutally beat a man to death with Julie’s assistance. After he dumped the body in the shrubs, he beat his granddaughter for intervening. Bell was someone that liked being in control. He didn’t care who intervened or tried to help him. He got off on hurting others. He stole the man’s car and he put Julie in the backseat.
They took off. The cops later found Bell at Preston’s place. Preston’s family was thankfully not home. Bell tried to fire at them when they closed in and Atwater stopped him when he tried to sneak out through the back.
Bell was arrested. He just didn’t have his granddaughter with him. They pleaded with him for her location. He first claimed she tried to run. He then claimed that he killed her.
He swore he didn’t recall where it was. Then he said he’d take them to her body. Only he took them to an empty field because he got off on upsetting them. He told Imani that she would never find her. Imani beat the living daylights out of him and she regretted it because she didn’t want the man using it to escape charges.
Voight reassured her that Bell couldn’t escape a thing. They found seven bodies in his walls and counting. Bell also stopped somewhere between the carjacking spot and Preston’s house. Imani remembered him smiling as they drove over a bridge. She went back to the bridge where she found Julie still alive. Bell only thought he killed her.
He hit her so much that she went to sleep and woke up in a storm drain. Julie was going to need a lot of help after this. She even thought she’d go to jail for not stopping her grandfather until Imani comforted her by saying she wouldn’t.
And Voight had a conversation Devlin. He used the photos that Devlin was trying to blackmail him with and explained what really happened. His father never abused him. He instead saw that Voight was constantly looking for a fight. Voight was hospitalized after fighting two kids bigger than him.
His dad was so worried about him that he took him to the hospital. He told him to hunt monsters if he really wanted a fight. His old man eventually died during the line of duty, but he was a good man. And Voight didn’t care if Devlin tarnished his memory with innuendo because he knew the truth – Devlin was a weak man pretending at strength.
THE END!
