In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Detective Adam Ruzek has been struggling lately with his dad. His dad has Alzheimer’s.

He was forgetting things. He was claiming that his cousin Marla called him earlier and she’s been dead for five years. Disco Bob doesn’t even recognize his own son when he’s in the room. He has a picture board to help. It tells him who was who in his family.

He looks at it whenever he gets a visitor. Only there remains a disconnect because he told Ruzek that he looks like his son. He couldn’t comprehend that he was his son. It was heartbreaking to watch him slip away.

Ruzek’s dad also got upset about his son moving. It reminded him that he wasn’t home. He kept wanting to go home. Ruzek kept having to tell his dad that he was home. The care home was his home now. Ruzek was feeling upset and he later went through his dad’s old things.

He played all the old videos to see if any were home videos that got mislabeled. He instead found a video that haunted his father for years. Disco Bob has received a video in 2019 that claimed to be the Motel Massacre.

The video was of someone getting murdered in a motel room. Ruzek thought it could be an old tv show at first. It wasn’t until he saw the blood splatter during the murder itself that he realized it wasn’t fake like in a tv show. It was very much real. Someone did die.

Ruzek thought it was an evidence tape so he went back to his dad’s. He tried asking him about it. His father wasn’t having one of his good days. He couldn’t discuss the tape. Ruzek then went to his dad’s old buddy Mike. Mike said the tape had been a prank.

Mike claimed the cops were constantly pranking each other back then. He said someone sent that tape to Bob. Bob looked into it. He never thought it was a prank although he couldn’t find evidence that it was real. He kept looking into it. It practically haunted him.

Mike said that prank went too far and whoever sent it must have realized the same because they never confessed to it. No one was willing to take the blame. Ruzek was much like his dad in that he didn’t think this was a prank. He thought it was real. And he got the video cleaned up.

He made it clearer. He added color. He was even able to decipher the name of the hotel because the original video’s dialogue was garbled. He then found the motel and he matched which room where the crime took place. It was far too elaborate to be a hoax.

Ruzek was digging around because he found out that the motel records inside of the room when he was knocked out. He eventually woke up in the hospital with no memory of what happened in the past day. He suffered a serious concussion. He also scared his family.

They soon had another reason to worry. The night manager from the motel showed up in his hospital room. Ruzek couldn’t recognize him.

The man had a gun and Ruzek didn’t even know he was in danger at the time. He was saved when the nurse came in to check up on him. The motel manager ran off. Just not before Burgess had the police go over the motel with a fine tooth comb. They found the video surveillance room. It was a technically crime to sell a room with unknown cameras inside. So, they got a name for their suspect. His name is Daniel Boyer.

Boyer was still in the hospital when Burgess passed by him. She identified herself and he ran off. She chased him. She arrested him. Daniel claimed he didn’t attack Ruzek or know he was a cop. He just saw him on the security footage in his special room.

Dan wanted to know if he had to pay him to look the other way like he does with other cops. They instead showed the video of a murder in his motel room. Daniel said he was off that dad. Once he did see it, he tossed it. He didn’t want that kind of trouble.

Someone had already cleaned up the room. Nor was there any sign of a body, but it was real. The murder victim was identified as Joe Verlaine. He was a ketamine user. He was a drifter with no family and he was released from the military because of that drug use.

Daniel wasn’t their killer. He was telling the truth that he never assaulted Ruzek. Ruzek got his memories back. He remembered that his injury was caused by him falling while trying to claim a gate. He flat on his back. He hit his head pretty seriously.

They found the drug dealer who killed Verlaine. They solved a cold case for Ruzek’s dad. Not that the dad can recall it because he’s slipping away now. He doesn’t want to eat anymore and so this was heading towards the end.

THE END!
