General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) seems ready to follow Jason Morgan’s (Steve Burton) lead and finally walk away from the mob.
It’s something Sonny and Jason have been talking about for a while now, but it feels like it’s actually happening at this point.
In the August 6 episode, Sonny spoke to Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) about Jason’s decision to leave the mob life behind and put Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn) first.
Jason wants to be a better role model for Danny, so Sonny understands why.
In fact, Sonny has decided he’s going to get out of the mob as well, so Dante was certainly taken aback over that news.
The rest of Sonny’s loved ones are sure to be just as shocked over him finally shifting gears.
Of course, this points to a new direction for the show as well.
After so many years of mob-centric drama, things have already begun to move down a different path in Port Charles.
Many viewers have noticed a lot more WSB turmoil instead, so it seems like the ABC soap wants to focus on the bureau and all its complexities.
It’s a big departure from all the mob mayhem of the past.
This lines up with what Soap Opera Network teased about Jack Brennan’s (Chris McKenna) upcoming fatal exit.
Sources told SON “that the character will be killed off in the fall as the show leans heavily into storylines surrounding the World Security Bureau (WSB).”
That’s just further proof that GH writers are concentrating on WSB action instead of the mob upheaval that previously fuelled the show.
This is a major change that’ll please some fans and disappoint others, but it definitely seems to be happening no matter how you feel about it!
Sonny may face some dangerous challenges as he shuts the door on his mob history, but he should be successful in the end.
From there, Sonny can give his family more attention and throw himself into some new opportunities, too.
