In tonight’s Law & Order SVU episode, Captain Benson of the SVU received a call about a young prostitute. The girl looked younger than fifteen. The cops picked her up along with a john. The john was a married guy from New Jersey. He was shouting about his wife taking the kids if he got arrested as if anyone cared.

The prostitute in his backseat had a busted lip. He claimed it wasn’t him and the girl wasn’t talking. They took her to the hospital. They called Benson. Benson got Riley to talk. She said her name is Riley Williams. She was turning fifteen in a couple of months. Her pimp told her that she couldn’t see her dad if she didn’t comply.

Riley was in the foster care system. It would be better to say she fell through the system. She wasn’t getting proper health checks by her caseworker and that’s because she’s had different caseworkers with each visit. She was being pimped out by her foster’s mother’s boyfriend. He wasn’t listed as living in the apartment.

Child Protection Service thought Riley was staying with a single woman. Her name is Monique Sherman. Sherman hid the fact she had a boyfriend living with her. She did it because Marcus Boyd had an arm long record.

He was just released from prison less than a year ago. One of the charges was promoting prostitution. There’s no way any true caseworker that cared would’ve let him live in the same apartment as Riley.

It’s just that unfortunately for Riley there was no one checking up on her. Her last visit was months ago. Benson made sure that she got a new caseworker and that she was actually interested in helping kids. Riley didn’t stick around to meet her because she walked out of the hospital by herself.

Riley went to her dad’s place. Nate Williams called the nonemergency line to say she was there. Nate seemed like a good guy. His wife died and he lost custody because he was accused of abuse.

Riley broke her arm. She said she broke it playing volleyball. It happened in the Bronx. It was investigated by Bronx SVU. They determined she was telling the truth. There were witnesses. The detective was thorough. There was no need to take Riley out of the home. She was only removed because of the doctor that treated her broken arm. A Dr. Allen.

Dr. Bethany Allen felt for sure that Riley had been lying to protect her father. She said the arm broke because Riley was trying to shield herself from a blow. She was a child abuse physician.

She supposedly was an expert in her field and Bronx runs differently to Manhattan. Benson learned that the hard way. She agreed to make some calls to see if she could help Riley return home. She’s been separated from her father for the past four years. She’s been beaten and pimped out. She just wanted to go home. And no one was listening to her.

Bronx Family Court was a joke. The lawyer that her dad hired said that the judges there are all waiting for the next political appointment. They didn’t care about breaking up families. Or witnesses.

Or even a detective testifying in Riley’s case. She’s bounced from home to home for four years. Her schooling was all over the place. She went from a good place to a horrible place. Something Dr. Allen didn’t care about. She just seemed to care about being right. There were three hundred and fifty doctors in her small field. There were no other doctors that wanted to go against her.

Yet Benson found someone who didn’t see anything that Dr. Allen claimed. The doctor never checked the patient directly. She’s never met Riley. She simply read the medical report and saw the x-ray.

Benson still checked out the doctor. She bounced around quite a lot herself. She was now working at a small Bronx hospital. It was a step down for her. She never stayed at the other places for more than a few years. She’s been in the Bronx the longest. Bronx SVU was a mess back then. Detective Bruno had to sue to get the job done right.

CJ had a case in which she used Dr. Allen. She had the medical records from that case given to the same one that double-check Allen’s findings on Riley. While nothing could be found that she was wrong about Riley, the doctor did hid the fact on CJ’s case. There was a single black mother whose son hit his head.

It wasn’t a hard hit. His eyes rolled back and his mother called for an ambulance. It turns out he has a blood clotting condition that would prove his mother didn’t abuse him. Allen hid the results of it so that she could put an innocent woman in jail.

Dr. Allen has a problem with black single parents. She wanted them to be guilty of something. They conducted a grand jury on malpractice. They caught her on perjury.

The doctor doesn’t like to be wrong. She was fine with taking children away from loving parents as long as she gets to be right. After her perjury was caught, the doctor was forced to give up her medical license. The little baby boy was returned to his mother. And Riley has a better chance of going home again thanks to them challenging that unfit doctor.

THE END!
