As explosives tick and trust frays, Knight clashes with the CID officer running the standoff, each convinced theirs is the only way out.”

In tonight’s NCIS episode, army CID was facing a RIF. Reduction In Force. There was a rumor going around that the whole department might get laid off and if true it also meant that NCIS was going to get hit with plenty of cases. Special Agent Knight thought that was already happening.
The army came and picked her up. There was a woman holed up in the ammo warehouse with a gun. He could level a city block with one shot. Knight was an experienced negotiator. She thought she was there to talk the man down. Only she was wrong. She was asked to come down because the man posing as a terror threat claims to be her little brother.
The team knew Knight has a sister. They knew she had an older brother. They didn’t know about the little brother. Then again neither did she. Knight has no clue who the man was. He still asked for her and so she was allowed to talk to him. His name is Ryan Harper.
He identified himself. He was Knight’s old criminal informant. His code name with her was “little brother”. She forgot all about it until she saw him again. The Army’s CID had eyes on him from the surveillance system. It was Knight’s job to get him to talk.
Ryan first wanted her to come inside. It wasn’t allowed. Major Malone didn’t want to turn the whole thing into a hostage situation. He then told Knight it was really bad and that she needed to visit Evelyn to understand. Evelyn was his mother’s name. She died back in October.
Still, Knight sent her own people to Evelyn’s old house to investigate. They found a bunch of expensive items like a motorcycle, jet ski, and even a pinball machine. Ryan couldn’t afford any of those things on a sergeant salary.
Knight asked Ryan about it. He said he was being set up. He said there was more and then he stopped engaging. Knight tried to reach him again. It wasn’t working. He was beginning to put missiles together. Malone said he was unraveling. He gave the order to take him out and Ryan was shot.
It turns out he wasn’t about to detonate a missile. He had a practice dummy in his hand. He was trying to self-soothe. He barricaded himself because he knew he’d be blamed for what else was at his mother’s house. It was a dead body.
Knight didn’t like what CID did at the scene. Or how quick they were to claim that Ryan killed that person. That person was his best friend. He was stabbed with Ryan’s knife. The Ryan that Knight remembered would never have done that. Especially not to Sergeant Yates. Yates was another old criminal informant.
He and Ryan brought down a drug lord named Roland Massi. They risked their lives to get justice for the victims. They then joined the Army afterwards. They started a charity for veterans who found themselves unhoused. Ryan started to date a nice woman named Amanda Adams.
They’d never risked criminality. Much less whatever afforded those items at his mom’s house. Knight later spoke to the girlfriend. She said that there was missing money from the charity.
Ryan was going to talk to Yates about it. The men were seen talking in the background of a video and that’s all it was. It wasn’t an argument. McGee’s lip reading app said that there was a lot of money missing. Yates said he’d talk to Matt about it. They didn’t know who this Matt was until Kasie got Ryan’s phone records.
Matt was Major Matthew Malone. He’s the guy that gave the call to shoot Ryan. Ryan was in the hospital fighting for his life now. He was in a coma and CID was acting as if it was a victory. They were under the spotlight. It helps that they could spin this story in their favor. Only that falls apart if Malone proved to be dirty.
They began digging into the charity. There really was a lot of money missing. It was all transferred to bitcoin thereby making it impossible to track. They tried to digging into Malone and not long after they started they were told that CID was investigating Knight.
They were reopening Roland Massi’s case. They think two things are possible. There’s a chance Knight foolishly believed Ryan’s story and expunged his record. Allowing him to join the army.
He was accused of selling drugs on base. CID claimed that Ryan took down Massi as a means of taking over the territory and that Knight either was too blind to see it or was an accomplice. Knight didn’t want to bring down NCIS with her so she offered to resign to Director Vance. It wouldn’t look good if NCIS let a potentially dangerous man into the army.
Vance accepted it. Parker wasn’t happy about it. Parker had his team dig in what happened. The claim that Ryan was a drug lord wasn’t true. It was just enough to appear as if he was a drug lord when he wasn’t.
His supply was all fake. The items at his mom’s house amounted to the money missing, but his charity was never used to launder drug money. It turns out it was Ryan’s girlfriend. Amanda was Roland Massi’s daughter. She was the only one that wanted revenge and she took down the men that took down her father.
It worked too if Knight hadn’t figured it out. Malone was actually innocent. Yates told him that there was money missing from his charity and Malone was looking into it as part of a CID investigation. Its why Amanda had to kill Yates. And framed Ryan for it.
Malone later apologized for the hard line he took earlier and Ryan woke up in the hospital so all good.
If the rumors about CID are true, Knight offered to put in a good word for Malone.
