In tonight’s NCIS: Sydney episode, back in 2017, Mackey was deployed to Afghanistan. She was a pilot. She ignored orders to rescue several Americans on the ground. She was told to leave them to be captured or killed. She couldn’t do that because Mackey could never leave a man behind. She rescued three soldiers.

She was asking how they got lost behind enemy lines. They couldn’t answer her so it made her think maybe they didn’t get lost. Maybe they went there intentionally. She was grilling them when the plane was hit by an RPG.

The small missile took down the plane. It killed two of Mackey’s crew. She also ended up court martialed afterwards. She lost her career. The sad part was that it was all for nothing because the three marines she saved all die stateside. One was suicide and the other two supposed died in accidents.

DeShawn was working the case at the time. He was in the JAG department. He was in charge of helping the prosecutor build a case against Mackey and he researched the men she saved. He was looking for the truth. He also proved to be the only one besides Mackey looking for the truth.

What DeShawn found out was that every man from that flight was now dead. The sole survivor is Mackey. This became important later on because Mackey and Deshawn caught a case in 2026. They had to investigate the death of a marine. Former Marine Private First Class Dan Kielman died in a car crash.

He stole a car and he was being chased by the cops when he crashed. The crash wasn’t what killed him. He died of a heart attack brought on by methamphetamines. There was a lot of it in his system.

It wasn’t taken willingly. There were drugs hidden in the car. Dan was trying to reach them when the car caught fire in the crash and turned the drugs into vapor. He breathed that all in until it killed him. NCIS believed he was a drug trafficker. They just didn’t understand why.

Dan was former marine who retrained in Finance. He became a banker. He had a steady job. Why did he steal a car much less move that much drugs? The drugs were later revealed to have come from Afghanistan. They used to be big in heroin production under the United States until the Americans withdrew. Now, they’ve turned to pills.

This was connected to what happened in 2017. Dan was a friend of one of the men that Mackey saved. He also worked as a banker in a former American bank based in Sydney. By American bank, it actually meant a spook connection. The bank no longer had any connection to the CIA openly.

Though they still hire old spooks and one of them was familiar to Mackey. His name is Lee Meyers. He was there at her court-martial. He tried to get her lawyer to take a plea agreement. Mackey refused because she wanted to tell her story in open court.

Meyers didn’t want that to happen. He was in the State’s Department back then. They came up with an old excuse of National Security at risk to dismiss the charges against Mackey and the court martial disappeared. Meyers even had JAG signed NDAs. Its why DeShawn never told Mackey about her being the sole survivor until this case came back up. She thought they were all alive. She was going to question Tate Hanley about Dan when DeShawn finally came clean. He said Meyers made them keep quiet. And guess what? Dan worked for Meyers at the bank.

Meyers tried to claim there was an internal investigation looking into Dan for possible embezzlement. They were keeping it in house to not panic people with money with them. Only that might as well be a lie. NCIS found out that the drug smuggling was connected back to the bank. It was too big for one man to handle alone. They then asked the one person they knew with connections to the drug world in Afghanistan. They asked the man they saved and reunited with his family.

They facetimed him. He told them about a massive drug operation in Afghanistan operated by the Collective. It was known by something in the Afghani language. Mackey recognized the name. When she saved those soldiers, they didn’t believe she was friendly at first. They demanded to know if the Collective had sent her. They hadn’t and it was only once they were reassured that they got on the plane with Mackey. It turns out the Collective was a group within the US Military intent on selling drugs worldwide. They were bigger than any warlord.

Mackey set up a private meeting to ask Meyers about this Collective. He figured out she had evidence. He then proudly confessed to being the Collective. He killed those people in the Afghani village. He took out rival drug leaders and he’s even killed his fellow American soldiers. On top of the Australian soldiers he killed in that village. He killed Hanley and the others because they were brought in but tried to back out of the Collective. There was no leaving the Collective. Its why they ran off when Mackey ignored orders not to rescue them.

The Collective was worried about what the men told her while they were up in air. Mackey hadn’t known it at the time only her threaten of a public trial was something the Collective came together to quash. Now, that she has evidence of their wrongdoing in that same village, they threatened her with her son. They knew about Trey. Mackey had accidentally revealed him back when she thought Meyers was a friendly. They got a picture of him. They knew he was heading to Sydney. They planned on grabbing him if Mackey tried to pursue an arrest.

Only Mackey knew something they didn’t. She knew they were bugging her phone. She had a call about Trey being at her apartment in the city and then she said they were going public with video of the massacre involving the Collective. Meyers made his move with only one guy as backup. Mackey showed up with JD and DeShawn pretended to be her son long enough to expose them. They brought down the two men. Mackey almost killed Meyers for threatening her son yet DeShawn reminded her to make her case in court.

One of the reasons that DeShawn left Jag was because he believed in Mackey. He did back then and he still does now. She convinced him to trust his gut. It’s why he followed her all around the world. He’s never stopped believing in her. So, Mackey didn’t kill Meyers when she had the chance. She arrested him and then she went to NCIS Headquarters to hug her son after a long day. He was enjoying a beer. He was playing video games with Trigger. Mackey was so glad to see him that she wasn’t even mad about the beer.

JD also picked up his mouth tape because apparently he breathes through his mouth at night. It was ruining his new girlfriend’s sleep. Its called mouth tape. The whole team thought it was a weird sex thing. They were still making fun of him when he showed to pick it up.

THE EMD!
