In tonight’s 9-1-1 episode, a man bicycled his way to the closest police station to report a murder. His murder! The poor man had been poisoned. He was vomiting up blood and passed out right after he told Athena what’s wrong.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was identified as Bernard Morelli. He wasn’t married. His closest relative didn’t even know he was ill. Athena wanted to stay on the case.
She asked the detective for permission to work it and together they tried to figure out why he asked for her. He passed other cops. He passed a literal hospital. Why did he have to report his murder to Athena?
Athena as well as Morelli’s doctors were trying to figure out what he had been poisoned with. The detective had never seen anything like it. He was a homicide detective and has seen everything from arsenic to rat poison. This was new. This could even be worrying. They were retracing Morelli’s last steps as Buck struggled with sobriety.
Buck was prescribed opioids to deal his broken ribs. The one he suffered in New Mexico. Then he began heavily leaning on those same pills for everything. He quickly finished his first prescription.
Buck shopped around for doctors until he kept getting a refill. One doctor noticed all the recent visits. He flagged Buck’s name in the system. He now can’t get opioids from anyone and so he was forced to go sober.
He was struggling. He looked like crap and he was short-tempered. He didn’t even laugh at Ravi over what happened with May. May and Ravi hooked up. Harry found out about it. He got upset. He joked that Ravi couldn’t date his sister and Ravi took it seriously. He never called May after their night together. And you know what happened next?
May moved on because that’s what normal people do. May no longer believed she should be a lawyer. She was now considering becoming a nurse. She spoke to this hot nurse she met named Ian.
They got arrested together in a fight for social justice. It bonded them and now they seemed to be hanging out. He went with her to drop off Harry’s nightguard. Ravi saw him with May. He got jealous and Harry practically told everyone about it. He included the part that Ravi ghosted May after their hookup.
They were all laughing at Ravi. He blew his chance with a bright young lady with a promising future. The only one not laughing was Buck. Buck felt sick and he wasn’t in a laughing mood. He nearly bottomed out during a Code Zero. There were no ambulances. The hospitals were all backed up. This woman had a son who struggled to breathe and Maddie ended up telling her to just drive to the hospital. It would be quicker than waiting for an ambulance. The hospital was less than six blocks away. The one thing the woman couldn’t do was taking her eyes off the road.
Maddie warned her about it. She told this woman that she couldn’t help her son until she got to the hospital. Yet, the mother was concerned when she didn’t hear her son. She turned back to check on him and she ran her car into a hydrant. Maddie was informed of what happened. She told the staff at the hospital. One of the nurses there ran out to meet up with the mother. Chimney was also informed and by the time his firefighters got to the scene – Ian had already got the little kid intubated. He was breathing again. He even woke up.
Ian was a hero. There were plenty of people who caught what he did on their cell phones. His first responder heroics were now going to be watching by everyone. It made Ravi feel worse about his own situation with May. Meanwhile Athena figured out who was going to kill Morelli. He was poisoned with polonium 210. It was known in Russian political assassinations. There was no antidote or treatment. He was going to die from it. Its why he drove his bike to the station. He wanted to give them the item used to poison. It was his water bottle.
Morelli was an investigative journalist. He went by the name of Chester Caufield. His only child refused to talk to him because his dad left him with his dying mom to pursue a story. Morelli thought his killer was Nikolay Caster. This Russian billionaire that he was about to expose for money laundering. He even guessed correctly that the detective on the case was sent in to silence what Morelli knew. He wasn’t wrong about the detective. It’s why he went to Athena. He knew from a story he didn’t write that Athena was one of the good ones.
Morelli knew Athena would get him justice no matter what. Again, he wasn’t wrong about that. He was wrong about his killer. His killer wasn’t someone he planned to expose. It was his own son. The science teacher that saved up amounts of the poison for years just to kill him. Athena arrested the young man, but the story about the Russian billionaire never saw the light of day.
Buck came clean to Chimney. He almost stole fentanyl from the ambulance. He knew he couldn’t work and so Chimney put him on leave. He told their friend group. He told Maddie. Everyone searched his house. Once they determined that he wasn’t hiding any hidden stash, his family helped him through recovery.
Ravi also learned that May was never dating Ian so Ravi finally showed his interests. Just in time for everyone to celebrate Bobby’s death anniversary.
THE END!
