In tonight’s Chicago Fire episode, Violet came clean. She told Novak about her one night stand with Vasquez. Novak easily forgave her because she claimed it was no big deal and the truth was that it did affect her. She was left hurt by the reveal. She hid it because Violet was too important to her to let this get in the way.

The truth was that her crush on Vasquez went a little further back than she admitted. She had a temporary diversion with Dr. Frost. She thought there might be something more in her crush on Vasquez. Hell, she talked about her crush with her sister of all people and that proved he played a bigger role than she realized in her work life.

Novak also had no idea how to talk to Vasquez anymore. Now, that she knows, it was awkward. She was no good at small talk. She was genuinely glad when a call came in. They were called to a medical clinic. There was a surgery in process when a fire caught on. The surgeon was knocked out.

There was a young OR nurse as well as the patient that needed to be moved. Kidd stayed behind to help. She got everyone out. The new Chief was impressed. He may have gotten off to a bad start with her husband, but Severide wasn’t there that shift so Kidd got to haver her own opinion about him.

Kidd later received a call from someone who refused to give their name. They said that fire wasn’t an accident. It was arson. They sounded like a woman and there was no real way to be sure. They still asked Kidd to stop this arsonist before they hurt anyone else. Kidd brought this to the new Chief.

He didn’t doubt her or question her story. Chief Hopkins asked her to follow protocol. She contacted OFI. She spoke with Captain Hargrave. She did a little bragging about her husband who passed the captain exam with the highest score out of nearly four hundred firefighters.

Hargrave was very proud because Severide was a friend of the department. Then the two women spoke with the nurse. Her name is Elizabeth. Elizabeth wasn’t the one that made the call to Kidd.

Kidd thought she was because she knew a woman was trying to warn them. She thought it was about a serial arsonist. Elizabeth brought up something much worse. She said that clinic has a bad reputation. It’s been accused of negligence in the past. Elizabeth didn’t make the call and she didn’t know who did.

Kidd and Hargrave followed up on the lead Elizabeth gave them. They went back to the scene. They didn’t find signs of arson. What they found was breaking chemical protocols.

Two chemicals that should never mix nor be thrown down a drain had both things happen here. The janitor was asked about it. It wasn’t him. It was also his wife that made the call to Kidd. They said that Helix Health Systems were behind what happened. They’ve been buying up smaller clinics that take their business. They tried to buy Gateway Clinic too.

Gateway refused to sell. They provided great services at fraction of bigger companies like Helix. They didn’t want to leave the neighborhood without that kind of care so Helix tried to sabotage them. Hargrave checked it out. She said there was a complaint from another clinic that called Helix aggressive in wanting to buy.

Whoever they bribed at Gateway had access. They also didn’t set out to start a fire. They tried to get the clinic to flunk its inspection happening later that week. They threw out the chemicals not knowing it would lead to a fire.

Gateway had a great reputation. There was only one person who said otherwise and it was Elizabeth. Hargrave went with Kidd to question that nurse again. They told her they have the evidence.

They also knew she stayed with her patient to the very end. Elizabeth never meant to put anyone in harm’s way. If she agreed to testify against Helix in sabotaging Gateway, she could get a lighter sentence. Elizabeth agreed to turn on her boss so the CEO of Helix was arrested. Kidd impressed Chief Hopkins with how quickly they closed the case.

Hopkins didn’t mention it only he doesn’t really have a problem with Severide. He had a problem with Benny. Benny nearly sunk his career and that of his best friend’s.

There’s a part of him that wants to take that out on Benny’s kid. The issue was that Severide reminded him too much of Benny. Benny was obsessed with OFI as well. Hopkins later sent over a review of Severide to Internal Affairs for Dereliction of Duty. Mind you he hasn’t been there long enough to know if it was true or not. He was just taking out his frustrations against the wrong person.

Herrmann threw a Trivia Night at Molly’s. It made him mean. It made Violet super competitive. Tony didn’t want to be on any of their teams so he formed his own team with Capp.

The two of them had been arguing earlier about Mahjong and it was resolved when Capp realized he read the rules wrong. Vasquez also shot his chance at Novak. She turned him down because he already hooked up with Violet.

THE END!
