In tonight’s American Idol episode, they were making history tonight with the musical celebration of Taylor Swift. They performed her catalogue with the amazing Top 7! They even added Nikki Glasser as the guest judge and she was perhaps the biggest Taylor Swift fan around. She saw the Eras tour at least twenty-two times.

She was also a riot. She was a great comedian. She was great at getting a reaction and she told the finalists that she hoped to get one from them tonight. She’s already felt everything there was to feel with Taylor Swift’s music. She wanted them to bring about something new in her and to do that they have to pick the perfect song.

Up first was Jordan. Jordan performed “Tim McGraw”. It was a song from Taylor’s first album. Back when she was performing country music. Jordan has a great voice and he honored the song while sticking to his roots. He still brought people to church with his voice. He received a standing ovation. His dad was in the audience and he looked so proud of his boy. Jordan’s voice hasn’t been in the bottom three so far and he was hoping to remain so after tonight. He was one of the lucky ones because no one stepped on his moment like they did with the others.

Take Chris. Chris went next and he performed “Exile”. Chris got to show off a softer side to his tone with this song. The audience got a little ahead of himself though with his performance. He took a break into the song because the song had one. It was to build up emotion. Except the audience thought it was over. They started to applaud and he still has one last line to sing. It kinda ruined an otherwise stellar performance. The judges were enjoying this one. They loved how locked in he was whenever he was onstage and they would’ve given him his dues if it hadn’t been for an overeager audience.

They luckily learned their lesson by time they got to Hannah. Hannah performed “Mean”. She chose the song because she had it rough last week. The critics were out in droves complaining about everything from her entire to her voice. She decided to address when she chose this song. Taylor wrote it in honor of her own critics. Hannah was able to connect to it and she gave a great performance. It was very bluegrass. It was very Hannah. They also admired her confidence to perform this one that even had Nikki singing along with her.

Next up was Brooks. Brooks’s voice was perhaps the most unique. Its not insult to say he sounded like a woman when he performed “Love Story”. Maybe it was in honor of his new relationship. He found love and now wants others to do so. It was a beautiful performance, but it sounded too much like Taylor herself. It was a little off-putting. Brooks really should’ve chosen something more of a challenge. He had an off night. No matter what the judges say in kindness, He had an off night and he wasn’t alone.

Why oh why did Daniel choose “Fearless”? The song wasn’t for him. Daniel performed it very well. He just didn’t have the emotion behind nor did he seek it out. Carrie was reluctant to get up after this one. She more did it because the others were doing so. It just hadn’t been Daniel’s best performance. He still put his own spin on Taylor’s swift and for that alone he impressed Nikki. Daniel was capable of so much more though that he could tell this one wasn’t his best. He wouldn’t have hyped the audience up if he knew he had their full attention.

Keyla soon followed. Keyla’s rendition of “Lover” was unique in the sense that she actually sounded like a stronger singer between her and Taylor. She was perfection. She really was. Everything from her look to her voice was on point. Luke even used those words “on point”. Keyla has been performing like she does this for a living and the audience loved her back for it. She brought the glitz back. Her voice sounded amazing. The backup singers didn’t overpower her nor did the audience.

Braden was next up. He chose the song “Folklore”. He was in the bottom three last week and he needed a song to put him back on top. It wasn’t this. He didn’t choose a song that highlight him as well as it could have. He sounded nice. He hit all the right notes. It just didn’t stand up next to the others in Round 1. They have to show consistency. Which he lacked. Its what got him in the bottom last week. It didn’t leave the best impression this week. Then came Round 2 that moved away from Taylor Swift.

Brooks was up first in the group. He performed “She Will Be Loved”. His voice can sometimes be at the top of the field and sometimes the listeners wondered how he’d made it this far. One can never tell with Brooks. His voice was unique. He puts a country spin on things without him even trying. His rendition was very much his own, but again it was all about the listener. It was hard to tell him if this was good or not. It was just Brooks. Brooks still needed people to vote for him so it must say something good.

There was no doubt however when it came to Jordan. Jordan chose the song “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. It was a classic. Everyone’s done it and still he wowed them. The song was perfect for his voice. He sounded soulful and smooth. He set himself apart and America will have to be deaf to ignore a voice like his own. He had a great Round 1 and 2. Others couldn’t say the same. Its why they poured out everything into their second performance like Daniel.

Daniel chose the song “Best Part”. It allowed him to recover from his earlier performance while still being a showman. He started out behind a piano and eventually abandoned it to stand. It gave him the chance to perform directly to the audience. He had gained some confidence with his second song. It was like he no longer needed to hide behind a piano. He sounded great. And so he waited to hear if his second performance did more to impress than his first.

Maroon 5 seemed popular tonight because Braden went next. He chose the song “This Love”. He wanted to let loose. He really did so with this song. He relaxed and he let his voice say what he needed to say. He sounded much better with his second song. Sometimes it was all about the recovery. He fell a little flat earlier and he recovered far better than even the most reluctant judges thought. Time will tell if it was enough.

Next up was Chris. Chris had created a whole vibe with both of his performances tonight. He created a soft teddy bear look. It served him well. The audience didn’t step on him towards the end like they did the first one. He chose the song “What Was I Made For” because the song spoke to him. It made him come across as relatable and romantic. The second song was all about showing your inner self so to that extent he succeeded.

Chris was followed by Hannah. Hannah got to be her true Country Girl self with this one. She chose the song “That’s The Way Love Goes”. She was decked out in a white suit with rhinestone. It wasn’t noticeable if someone’s been watching from the start only her audition tape showed she lost some weight this season. She has kids back to back so she’s probably sleeping better than ever. She was also sounding beautifully. She had a great night from start to finish. One of the few others that can be said about was Keyla.

Keyla was up next. She decided to let it all out. The joy and the fight. She chose the song “I’d Rather Go Blind”. She felt every word of it and sold the song with another stellar look on top of her performance. Keyla was really coming up as a frontrunner. She just have to survive the bloodletting tonight and luckily for everyone she did.

The two people eliminated tonight were Brooks and Daniel because again they weren’t at their best.

THE END!
