In tonight’s The Walking Dead: Dead City episode, the pantry was destroyed. Without that security, people began getting restless. They questioned who was in charge and why they were in charge. There wasn’t anyone who liked the words “rationing”. They were was a self-sustaining turkey base growing across the street.
The seeds they planted in the park were already sprouting. They still chose to focus on the words rationing and that it would likely take months to go back to the regular schedule.
There simply wasn’t enough to go around for everyone feeding like the food was never going to run out. And naturally people just refused to take that one well.
There was hoarding. There was also the fact that people were trying to steal. One lady tried to steal a can of beans and blaming it on someone else who allegedly hid it in her bosoms.
They checked her out. She wasn’t having a stroke or hallucinations. She was scared. She was trying to hoard on to what little she had and so she didn’t need Hershel laughing at the bosoms part of the story. He was still a kid. He was learning. He wanted to be a doctor because Luiz has impressed him and that’s why Luiz impressed upon him that desperate people weren’t a laughing matter.
Hershel will get there. The same goes for Negan. Negan needed to be roped into another one of Maggie’s crazy plans. Maggie came up with the idea of offering all day electricity.
She couldn’t offer more food. She figured offering them at least something would get the tensions to ease up because people were asking why did they bring them here. Like they didn’t get on boats and head over from New Jersey. This was after they started a war with each other by the way. They went there for help and the people there were kind enough to let them in.
Now, that kindness was wearing off. They rose to the occasion like Maggie thought when she turned on the lights. They did so when there was nothing to lose and now that its less of a meal – attitudes were shifting.
Its why Maggie chose electricity as a hail Mary. She enlisted Negan’s and Dillard’s help by promising tuna casserole. It wasn’t going to always work. It barely worked tonight. Negan just happened to be nicer now than he was in the past. He was also a duo with Dillard whether Dillard liked it or not.
Dillard was still pretty creepy. He askes about women when truthfully he still has a hard on for the undead. He went with the crew they put together. They managed to find a bunch of the undead with the help of using the subway tunnels. They were wrangling them into box trucks when suddenly there was an issue.
The woman they sent out as bait had almost fallen. She had almost been killed. It’s hard to convince people to do this when one nearly dies. Luckily, drinks at Dillard helped lighten the mood.
With lights back on 24/7, people actually cheered. It wasn’t going to last. It never does. There will always be issues with people wanting more and others wanting control.
There was one guy who skipped the chance at getting more electricity because he claimed he couldn’t take risk. He has a wife. He has kids. He said he had to put them first right now. Renata understood. She didn’t press him. Then this same guy began plotting against her regime. He began plotting to steal food for himself.
He knew whoever had the food had the actual power. Funnily enough, Negan got drunk with Maggie. He warned her that he knew what she was building and that he wanted to believe in it too.
It just wasn’t going to work unless Maggie was in charge. Negan would like to be they would be friends in another life so he gave her this advice. She turned it down laughingly.
They fought like siblings until they get to drinking and their behavior stops being sibling-like. Renata also turned out to be smarter than Negan gave her credit for. She figured out the guy stole extra rations.
Renata didn’t call him out. She had Fabian give back the food. She had him take accountability in front of the community. It was better than a hanging. Not that Maggie liked either options. The trick with subway was working out. The electricity was going to work out and unfortunately Renata’s actions worked against her.
She thought all that guy did was steal food. No, he also got a gun. He began drinking after his humiliation. Fabian began harping on Maggie. He blamed her for everything. He said it all went wrong once people began listening to her.
Negan began worrying for his friend so he grabbed Fabian’s gun. Renata heard about the commotion. She ran over. She tried to talk Negan down and she doesn’t understand that Negan doesn’t accept ultimatiums. He followed her ideas because he knew they were Maggie’s ideas.
Without Maggie around, nothing there to stop Negan from being his worst self. He shot and killed Fabian. He accidentally also shot one of Dillard’s deaders as well. He practically dared Renata to bring her whole army to bring him down.
There was bound to be blood. The hospital was going to be busy. Not that Luiz or Hershel knew what went down. They were focus on their grief. Hershel realized that he thinks about his dad every day and he couldn’t talk about it with his mom because he doesn’t want to make her sad. Luiz thought about his wife, Marisol.
Hershel found an old photo of her and he created a mural of her in the hospital as a way of honoring Luiz’s loss. And that was a super sweet thing to do right before a potential blood bath in the next few episodes.
THE END!
