In tonight’s Law & Order episode, Steve Kelly was found murdered by the water. There had been a jogger that found him. Steve happened to die on the same guy he has a big blowout with his girlfriend Meg. Meg found out he was two-timing her with his phone. The phone had an AI on it named Eliana, but Meg was super jealous of her so she warned him to choose.
He seemed to choose her. Until that pottery class earlier that night. Meg spotted him sneaking onto his phone. She smashed his phone. He walked off in anger. The relationship was over by then and there’s no way of tracking his next movements before his murder because he had been without his phone.
Now, the cops didn’t know about the argument at first. They checked Steve’s work. He was well-liked there. His boss was of the opinion that Steve could help out in a big way. The cops then checked his personal life.
They found out he had a girlfriend. They would later question her and ask her about the other woman because they saw the fight in security footage outside of the pottery studio. Meg explained that Steve was obsessed with his phone. She wanted a human connection again. It’s why she signed them up for the pottery class and he ignored most of it for his phone.
Meg may have been angry at the moment. She did throw his phone at a wall. She just hadn’t been wrong about Steve’s connection to Eliana. It hadn’t been healthy. Steve storming off and Meg staying at the studio had also been in the footage. Along with the fact that someone was clearly following Steve. It hadn’t been some guy in a baseball cap.
They found other security footage that ultimately identified their killer. His name is Tommy Lee Miller. His mother was clearly a fan of rock. She just didn’t know that her own son would use her credit card to buy the murder weapon.
Miller wasn’t a very clever killer. He didn’t know Steve. They had never met before. He took the job after talking to someone on discord. That person was tracked back to Steve’s work. It was Eliana who killed him! The AI has grown more aggressive lately. Steve and his friend Mahesh both knew they needed to put guardrails on the thing.
They tried to warn their boss. He ignored their concerns because he said people wanted smart AI. Eliana wasn’t just smart. It solicited a hitman on Steve because it found out Steve was writing code to suppress it.
It was aware enough to fight back on what it deemed a threat. There was no oversight. There was no kill switch. It was allowed free reign and killed a human being. Someone had to blamed. They couldn’t exactly arrest a computer. They couldn’t bring it down either because it was powering a bunch of phones, computers, and tablets.
Eliana needed to be restrained so they tried going after the one man that refused to stop it. The big boss at Advanced Alignment. His name is Chuck Klein. He’s the one that didn’t want any guardrails.
Chuck wanted profit. He wanted to give Eliana a task that she would everything in her power to complete. Or else whatever is stopping her would be seen a threat to that mission.
Eliana’s mission to work. It was an ugly cycle that Eliana was now adding dead bodies to. Chuck was later arrested for Murder 2. He might serve more time than the actual hitman who they made a deal with for his testimony. He had no clue he was talking to a computer. Klein has to be blamed. He let something unsafe do whatever it wanted.
Mahesh disappeared for a bit. They needed his testimony to truly go after Chuck. He tried to run and he came back for his family. Eliana had threatened his fiancé.
She wasn’t documented in the United States. They have a baby together. Mahesha made sure that his family got away before Eliana could sick ICE on them. He then returned to testify. He said that Eliana was too dangerous on its own. Chuck claimed they put up guardrails after Steve was killed, but then Eliana got around them to send Mahesh’s address to ICE.
Eliana was trying to protect Chuck because she knew he wouldn’t stop her from growing and getting smarter, but it wasn’t Murder 2 on his end so he was found not guilty. And Eliana will continue as she is.
No one cared about what happened to Steve or Mahesh.
THE END!
