In tonight’s Chicago PD episode, Detective Kevin Atwater returned to work after going on paternity leave. His girlfriend just had a baby. It was a little boy and he was beautiful. He was also expensive. Atwater has a rip on his record that was stopping him from getting promoted within the Chicago Police Department.

Only he asked Voight if there was anything he could do to get around it. He said now was the time to look towards advancement. He wasn’t being paid much. His girlfriend recently quit her job in Miami to move back to Chicago so that they could raise their son in the city they both love. They just couldn’t live on one paycheck.

There was a time that was possible. It wasn’t so much anymore. Which didn’t work for Atwater. The only reason he got the rip because and as he put it himself he got screwed over.

Atwater asked Voight about it wasn’t going to help either. Voight said it couldn’t be done short of a regime change in the higher ups. Atwater was essentially told his career wasn’t going anywhere and this on top of a tough case made him realize his time with CPD might be at an end. There was a string of burglaries. It resulted in a murder in the most recent burglary.

The victim was Claudia Pullman. She was twenty-three. She was born and bred in Chicago. She also recently got engaged. She was bludgeoned to death for happening to be the supply closet when the two men broke in. The men were wearing ski masks. They were outfitted in full black clothes.

There was no need to kill her and one guy reportedly did it so that there wouldn’t be any witnesses. The other guy didn’t sign up for killing. He simply wasn’t the one in charge of what was happening and Atwater eventually saw that for himself.

Atwater walked in on another robbery in progress. There was a witness that was tied up. The vindictive one dropped a machine on the guy’s legs knowing that it would slow down the cops.

Atwater was helping to free the man when the good thief came back to help get the machine off the victim. He then got away because his hands were up. He wasn’t armed. He wasn’t even the one that committed assault. Atwater realized there was one person that was smart enough not to get entangled in another murder charge. The other guy killed Claudia all while being recorded and never realized it.

Claudia had pulled out her phone. She was recording inventory. It was like she was expecting someone and she actually caught her own murder on her phone. Her video gave them clues. The fact that she waiting for someone made them realize that maybe she knew her killer. He’s someone with a connection to all the crime scene. They looked into anyone who worked there that has a record. They found Brennan Clarke. He hadn’t been their guy. He was a drug addict that was turning tricks for dope.

He wouldn’t be pimping himself out if he had money from the burglaries. They were going to release Brennan when they saw his very concerned dad. The dad was Peter. Peter was willing to wait at the police station until his son was released. The cops were going to do that until Atwater made a connection. One of the reason Brennan was a suspect because he matched the build from the video. It was a build he inherited from his dad. They even look alike. It was a bit like how baby Malcolm looked just like Atwater himself.

Brennan also said that his dad helped get him the job before he was fired. Now, his dad has a spotless record. He committed the burglaries. He just didn’t commit the murder. They found evidence to back that up and Peter was arrested as he was meeting up with his partner. The partner ran once he spotted the police. He shot at them when they pursued him. He almost killed Atwater. He shot him in the vest. It got Atwater thinking that that guy was the killer. Not that Peter was talking. Peter was protecting his son.

Brennan wasn’t turning tricks purely for the drugs. He was doing it because he got into trouble. He robbed from a drug dealer that was threatening to kill him. Sadly, he’d go on to kill Brennan the second his dad got arrested. Peter eventually revealed that he pulled off the jobs with Steve McRae. CPD later arrested him before he could flee the city. They also arrested the drug dealer that killed Brennan. The odds are that McRae sicked Wilkin on Brennan to tie up the loose ends. And so its good he’s off the streets.

Though Peter was left heartbroken by his son’s death. He said don’t blink or you’d miss their entire childhood. Atwater took those words to heart. Voight got the black mark removed from his name. Atwater on the other hand realized how he almost died before his son could remember him. He didn’t want that to happen so he no longer wanted to work cases. He took a job teaching at the police academy in Atlanta. Voight helped him get it. There was nothing tying him down to Chicago anymore. His siblings were never there. His dad was constantly on the road. They at least had family down south.

Atwater moved with his new family to Atlanta and tonight he said goodbye to Chicago and his family there.

THE END!
